Installation concept from the days of studying landscape architecture back in Iceland. The idea is to create an illusion-like enclosure at a square or a street where it has failed to make a place within a space where pedestrians find a shelter and a sense of safety.
It is based on the research urban theorists Kevin Lynch and John A. Jakle, regarding the sense of enclosure in urban design - specifically how the spatial relationship between building height and the width of streets or squares influences how people experience those spaces.
I wanted to place the installation in a square or on the sides of a street, where the depth/height ratio of the buildings vs. the space between, is not ideal for a socially sustainable city. The mirrors are adjusted so they cut off the buildings and show the sky instead, in the right height for pedestrians, that stand in the middle of the structure, to experience the square/street if the D/H ratio would be between 2:1 and 3:1 as is suggested for a comfortable enclosure.
The installation was approved to be a part of Dutch Design Week 2021 in Eindhoven, but I had to postpone it due to various reasons.
I had more visualisations where I had made the structures 3D in fusion but unfortunately can't find them😅
