🛠️🧙‍♂️ Small Steps Forward – Weekend Dev Update (from the trenches)

Hey friend, just wanted to give you a heads-up about where we’re at right now with Creatures & Chronicles.

Honestly, the current live version is a bit of a mess. I know. There's stuff half-implemented, and a whole heap of bugs waiting in the tall grass. It’s not ideal, and I appreciate every one of you who’s been poking around in that chaos anyway. 🙏

The truth is: I can’t push out proper bugfixes just yet. The reason is the whole Quest-system backend is deep in surgery right now. There’s no clean way to patch smaller stuff without breaking even more of it. It’s frustrating. But that system is the spine of the game — once it’s stable, a lot of other things will start clicking into place.

💼 So here’s where you come in, if you’re up for it:

Pack animals! You can now buy mules and gear haulers in Havenford Crossing. If you feel like stress-testing how well they follow you, carry your loot, and behave in the wild… I’d be super grateful.

DIY Adventures! The creator tools are live. You can build a one-off encounter, a short scene, or even a small campaign. Nothing big needed. Just seeing how that process feels from your end means the world to me.

And yeah, any feedback on what’s confusing, broken, or just clunky as hell — please throw it at me. No sugarcoating needed.

This weekend won’t have a new build going live. But I am quietly pushing updates behind the scenes. You’ll see some new dev logs, maybe a teaser gif or two. It’s all moving… just slowly.

Thanks for sticking with me through the murky middle. We’re building this together — and if you're reading this, you’re already a huge part of that.

Catch you in Havenford 🍂

He doesn’t wear armor.

Every strike is patience, made visible.
Every stance is a warning.

But here’s the real question:
How far should we take this?

Should Talrun stay a figure — or should he come alive with full attack animations?

He doesn’t carry a sword.
He doesn’t wear armor.

He carries silence.
He wears discipline.

Every scar is a lesson, every breath a warning.
The fist isn’t raised in anger — it’s raised in certainty.

This isn’t a monk you play.
This is a monk you survive beside.

I don't know who needs to hear this,
but this isn’t just a miniature.

This is the kind of Paladin who never broke an oath — even when the gods stopped listening.

The chains aren't for his enemies.
They're reminders of the vows he still keeps.

You don’t paint this kind of miniature.

You summon him.

Where are we all today?

Some of us are sitting in quiet apartments, dice tucked away in drawers.

Some of us are buried in code, dreaming of dragons between standup meetings.

Some of us are parents now, trying to explain to our kids why a +2 longsword matters.

And some of us are still chasing that spark from a time when the rules were weird, the maps were hand-drawn, and the monsters felt personal.

Wherever you are…

Spoiler: Test play of the begining og the coming adventure module of "The Drowned Hold of Tar Seras"

🪓 The River Remembers. Do You? 🪓

I need you to imagine this like you’re me, alright?

You’re standing in Mayor Elbeth Drymoor’s crumbling longhouse in Estwych Vale. It stinks of mildew and eel oil. Five mismatched locks on the door, but none of them actually work. You hear chanting under the floorboards—but only when it rains. And when you dream in that place? You drown.

And then you wake up with mud under your nails.

This isn’t just another fantasy module. This is "The Drowned Hold of Tar Seras", where trauma clings to the land like mould on the plaster. And I swear to the Almighty, every NPC carries a weight you can feel in the dice rolls.

⚓ You’ll meet Hel Corwin, the one-armed ferryman who only rows at night.

⚓ And Mayor Drymoor? She hasn’t lit her hearth in 12 winters... but she’s always warm.

⚓ Then there’s the whisper about the Lord Below. But no one says His name. Not twice.
.. And the black eels, everywhere.

If your soul itches for low-fantasy that hurts just right. The kind of story you don't come back from unchanged, you already belong here.
But not everyone does.

📜 I'm dropping a first glimpse of playtest footage. If you’re part of the ones that remember what real danger in storytelling felt like ... You’ll want to watch. Maybe not alone.

The mud remembers. And soon... you will too.

Tar Seras is a bleak ruin, and the nearby village of Estwych Vale, situated on the banks of the Brillmere River, is being haunted, flooded, and infested with slimy, black eels.

The one-armed ferryman, Hal Corwin, will ferry the party across the river if you ask him the right questions and give him the stories he craves.

I needed to add the option for dialogue options to teleport the party, in order for the ferry option to work.

And I updated the dialogue tree overview to use Mermaid to illustrate the structure of the dialogue tree.

And since dialogues and dialogue trees are not easy to master for regular mortals. There is also the option to get a little AI help from Meta LLAMA 4 through Groq, which generates drafts for elaborate dialogue trees in just a couple of seconds. Describe the character, the character's backstory, a little backstory of the surroundings and a description of how you want the dialogue to play out, and the AI will help you.

This is all for a coming level 1-2 adventure called "The Drowned Hold of Tar Seras", which I have teased before.

⚔️🕯️ You ever read a story that feels like it was carved out of your own blood and bone?

I didn’t write this to impress you. I wrote this because I couldn’t sleep until I did.

This is Wyrmgut Hollow.

A dead place.

A place older than memory, kept alive by dread. And at its center… her.

She’s not a spider.

She’s the reason spiders exist.

This scene? It’s not just a story. It’s a promise — of the kind of game we used to whisper about after the session ended, when the torches ran out and the GM smiled too wide.

If this woke something up in your chest — if you miss when fantasy felt dangerous — I want you in our circle.

❝I gave my Paladin a voice… and he had a lot to say.❞

So, here’s something wild—Creatures & Chronicles doesn’t just let you create a character… it brings them to life.

When I asked my level 3 Paladin, Finigan Swiftblade, to tell his own story, the AI didn’t just spit out generic lines. No. It became Finigan. His struggles, his code of honor, his victories and regrets—all shaped by the choices he’s made in the game.

đź’ What does a battle-hardened Paladin sing about?
Justice? Redemption? The weight of duty?

As we all agreed—Paladins are the most awesome Fighter subclass (not up for debate, sorry). So let’s put that to the test.

🔥 Here’s what happens when Finigan Swiftblade writes his own song about his life.

And yes—every character you create in Creatures & Chronicles has this same power. They think. They reflect. They tell their own stories.

This is next-level roleplaying. Ready to hear what Finigan has to say?

Blind-fighting proficiency will negate most low-light penalties to attack rolls from the next update.
The maximum penalty with blind-fighting in total darkness is -2 instead of -6.
Demi-human races with infravision (heat vision) negate the penalties entirely in melee combat.
