Today I had the pleasure of a visit by master bookbinder Lars Hedegaard here in the printing office in Holsted. Lars came here to print a poem for a special edition of a book to be published later this year. Thanks to Lars for some great hours and conversations dedicated to the craft.

The work on a new ‘business card’ takes shape. There are still a few things to be done to capture the image of my iron handpress best as possible, with the material I have in my collection. But, I am almost there now – and the next big step will be to lock up the forms on the handpress and start make-ready and printing. Just waiting for a few days off from the day job, and some good printing weather – rain.

Back in May I purchased some metal types in Lund, SE. I have already shown some of the purchase – and now it’s time for the rest to be exhibited a bit. I’m still working on the identification of the types, and the very special typeface. It is runes and a bunch of rune styled glyphs. I can easily find the Younger Futhark – and probably the Elder as well… etc. Many glyphs are yet to be identified. There are 139 boxes, and around 130 different glyphs. The boxes are numbered 1-139, and they are all sorted out now. The types were heavily mixed up in the 139 boxes – but there is nothing that indicates a box no 140 or missing glyphs in the set. The types are Monotype cast (but I can’t find any information on runes issued by Monotype??). The type height is 23,56 mm. The typeface is 11 punkt, and the body is 10 punkt – so there is a slight overhang...???…. My theory is, that the types here has been cast by Berlingska Stilgjuteriet in Lund – and that they are made for a special book work about runes, and their development and use. I have not found the source to bring light on this little mystery yet – but the investigation goes on…. Here a few photos of the runes and a proof print …
