We are delighted to welcome our final residency artists in AFSÆT, Malou and Laura who work under the name, Engholm Danseteater ✨

Engholm Danseteater is a Danish dance company based in Copenhagen, working at the intersection of dance, theatre, and somatic practice. Our vision is to create sensory and relatable performances that offer both performers and audiences a sense of presence and connection.

We explore the cyclical nature of the female body from a choreographic perspective, diving into the body’s internal seasons and biological processes — from the budding energy of the follicular phase to the deep calm of menstruation. We aim to investigate the microscopic life of the body: cells dividing, tissues pulsating, and organic movements that connect us. As a single dancing organism, bodies are woven together, pulled apart, and reformed. Through humor, presence, and bodily poetry, the cyclical rhythm of the womb is brought to life — only to be abruptly interrupted as the familiar cycle is replaced by the emergence of new life.

We are happy to present our second last residency artist here in Sydhavn Teaters Annex Stage, Sungyeon Kim 🌿

Sungyeon is a performance artist exploring the intersection of ecology, migration, and embodied space. Using sustainable materials, object and audience interaction, her work investigates how bodies adapt like plants in unfamiliar environments, blurring lines between the human and the non-human.

“During the residency, I intend to deepen my exploration of sustainable materials and connection towards human bodies with the environment. I am particularly interested in creating bio-sculptures made from natural fibers, biodegradable latex, or plant-based materials, allowing the body to experience a tactile, living extension of itself. These sculptural objects function as a “second skin” that merges the performer’s body with organic forms, embodying the adaptive nature of both humans and plants. By combining these objects with movement practice such as Contact Improvisation and Body-Mind Centering, I aim to generate a performance that evokes the physical and emotional experience of migration and transformation.”
