NILS STÆRK is a contemporary art gallery with an international profile based in Copenhagen. Today, the gallery represents both upcoming, mid-career, and established national and international artists working across various media and genres, united by a conceptual narrative exploring current societal values and conflicts in today’s globalized society. Since its inception, NILS STÆRK has fostered gl

obal collaborations, particularly within the Central and Latin-American art scene, as well as with global art institutions, biennales, and galleries, creating new projects and opportunities with its represented artists and placing their work in significant art collections. The gallery has since its inception participated in several international art fairs such as Art Basel, Art Basel Miami Beach, Arco, Art Brussels, FIAC and ZsonaMaco. Initially located in a small gallery in the warehouse district at Islands Brygge, followed by a large space at Carlsberg Copenhagen, the gallery relocated to a 500 m2 former car workshop in the Northwest part of Copenhagen in the spring of 2017. This location still bears the mark of a raw, industrial aesthetic, a stark contrast to the gallery’s minimalistic interior designed by Henning Larsen Architects. In 2024, the gallery expanded with a second space in Copenhagen's city center, responding to increased interest in exhibitions featuring its artists. Situated on a bustling high street, this space intertwines its shows with the vibrant city through large, street-facing windows.

"Wayfinder (brown)" (2026) by FOS is currently on view as part of the focus26 presentation at the gallery on Glentevej 49.⁠

The Wayfinder lamps operate between function and decoration. They combine practical considerations with an ornamental presence, balancing the need to illuminate with the desire to mark, frame, and shape a space. Their forms suggest that even the most functional objects can carry directions and instructions – not only through what they do, but through how they occupy space.⁠

Please join us on Wednesday, September 9, from 5–6 pm for an artist talk between Michael Kvium and Jeannette Ehlers, moderated by Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt, Associate Professor in Performance Studies and Cultural Studies, University of Copenhagen.⁠

In connection with Kvium’s current presentation at the gallery, this intergenerational conversation brings together two distinct artistic practices to explore performance, video art and the body as both material and a site of meaning.⁠

Eduardo Terrazas' "1.1.702 From the series: Possibilities of a Structure, Subseries: Cosmos" (2026) is on view at Booth 37 as part of our presentation at Enter Art Fair.⁠

Terrazas draws from a geometric language and a method inspired by the tablas of the Huichol, an Indigenous Mexican tribe. Using symmetrical structures as matrices for countless variations, Terrazas explores cosmic concepts, placing the earth at the center and the celestial dome at the periphery, while essential forces – gravitational, electromagnetic, and nuclear – compete for the space in between.

Working from her own lived experience as a Black Muslim woman in Scandinavia, Ikram Abdulkadir reflects on questions of visibility, self-definition, spirituality, and community. Approaching the camera as both participant and observer, she creates images grounded in trust and mutual recognition, considering how personal and collective histories are carried through presence, environment, and emotional connection.⁠

Tove Storch's "Untitled" (2026) is on view at booth 37 as part of our presentation at Enter Art Fair.⁠

The work originates from the idea of upscaling a piece of textile. Suspended within a transparent plexiglass box, fine threads stretch repeatedly between wooden supports, forming draping curves that yield to their own weight. The dense repetition of lines recalls weaving techniques and enlarged textile fibers. As the threads fall into soft arcs between fixed points, the rigid framework appears unexpectedly fluid and delicate. The work transforms simple linear materials into a luminous, almost immaterial structure, where transparency, gravity, and rhythm create a sculptural drawing in space.

Davide Hjort Di Fabio’s "Skincare Routine" series translates familiar gestures of self-care into sculptural traces. Working directly in clay, Di Fabio uses the same repetitive movements as those made when applying skincare to the face, allowing the rhythm and pressure of these gestures to leave an imprint in the material. A private and habitual choreography is thus displaced from the surface of the body onto the surface of the sculpture.

Mads Gamdrup’s "French vermilion subst" (2025) is on view at Booth 37 as part of our presentation at Enter Art Fair.

Mads Gamdrup’s monochrome oil paintings explore the materiality of color through layered, hand-ground pigments. Balancing transparency and density, the surfaces reveal subtle shifts in tone and light. While seemingly minimal, each work contains traces of movement – gestural brushstrokes and the imprint of the hand – inviting slow, attentive looking. Rooted in a decades-long engagement with photography, these paintings continue Gamdrup’s investigation into light, color, and perception. By reducing the image to a single color, he creates space for reflection and sensory experience, where meaning emerges not from depiction but from the act of seeing.
