Winnifred the Woebegone is just a simple swamp princess looking to win the heart of Prince Dauntless. But can she pass the impossible test Queen Aggravain has in store for her?
Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen. That is, until the “shy” swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test, marry her prince and help Lady Larkin and Sir Harry to the altar? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the classic tale The Princess and the Pea provides some side-splitting shenanigans. For after all, a princess is a delicate thing.

PLEASE NOTE:
Hopefully, there will not be any rehearsals over the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend.

About the play:

This powerful, award-winning piece will change forever what you think when you drive by a roadside memorial. In Memory Garden, a young widow with two young daughters devotes herself to maintaining the roadside memorial for her husband who died in a tragic hit-and-run car accident. Angie has become such a familiar figure at the site that neighbors beep their horns and wave hello as they pass. When a man claiming to be a reporter stops to get her story, Angie unexpectedly finds the answers to her own questions about what happened on that terrible day.

Mame and Dolly are the most popular, the most often performed, and the most successful musical heroines of all time! Their composer-lyricist believed in trying to make people hum on the way out of theatre with big smiles splashed across their faces.

Where: Stuttgart Theatre Center, Kelley Barracks

When: 14 August 2021
1000 – Cleaning and readying the theater for the new season
1200 – Pizza!

Free Pizza! Around noon pizza will be provided for anyone who wants some, but please RSVP so we have a rough idea on how much we need to pick up. Please bring your own drinks, and if you want to bring something to share you are more than welcome, but if you just want to bring yourself that’s great too!

Around 2pm we will have our first general Friends of the STC meeting in nearly a year! We have lots to talk about and plenty of exciting things coming up, so we would love to see any and all who want to come. Plus we just miss you all, it’s been so long!

We all are busy doing our various summer things, so we understand not all can make it. But if you can, please let us know you will be able to attend by emailing [email protected] by Thursday, 12 August. This is especially important if you will be able to join us for PIZZA! Hope to see you there!

It’s time to vote for your 2021-2022 club officers! There are lots and great candidates on the ballot, if you have not received a ballot, request one at [email protected]. Voting ends 11:59pm on 27 May.

Good luck to all the candidates!

19/05/2021

Last day to vote for Friends of STC club officers! Email nominations for president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and
members at large to [email protected].

16/05/2021

Dear Friends of STC,

It is that time of year when we need to vote on our next year's board. All positions are open. Those are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and three Members-At-Large. The Treasurer must be an American on SOFA status. Either the President or Vice President (but not both) needs to be on SOFA status, so our German friends could take one of those positions.

Please nominate anyone - to include yourself - by May 19th at [email protected]. We will verify that the nominees are willing on May 20th. Then online voting will be May 21-27. We will send out a ballot using this email address.

If you know anyone who would like to be a general member of the Friends of STC, if we have their email address, they are eligible to vote and serve on the board.

Thanks,
Kyla Sikorski
President 2020-2021

01/05/2021

Hi Friends of the Stuttgart Theatre Center! It is time to think about election of officers for our next year. If you’ve ever thought about volunteering at the Stuttgart Theatre Center, you can be a member of this Private Organization and an officer! This year was difficult to do more than thinking about volunteering with COVID. Here’s hoping that with more vaccines, and the garrison being designated as our own town will help the show go on! If you are interested in joining the volunteer group who helps the STC run, send an email to [email protected]. That makes you a full fledged member. We will have all officer positions open, so if you want to self nominate, or nominate a friend, think about that. Nominations open May 14th. Either the President or Vice President will need to have SOFA status, but not both, so our German friends could hold one of those positions. Our Treasurer needs to be American and have SOFA status. Our Secretary can be anyone, as well as our 3 members at large. Please consider joining and nominating yourself for a position.

Happy WORLD THEATRE DAY!! 🎭We hope to meet you all at STC, soon!Until then, stay healthy and happy!!

Our directors are remaining hopeful that conditions will improve enough for theater this season. Please see below for updated information on planned show schedules, to include potential auditions for Murder on the Orient Express.

Stay safe, wear a mask, and hope and pray we can continue with live theater in the near future!

Dear STC Patrons,

So it looks like the Lockdown has been extended through the end of January…at least. Once again, that changes everything.

We are still hoping to present three shows this season. That is, if we can actually start at the beginning of February. For our Season Ticket Holders this would mean that you would only need to pay for one musical.

Keep your fingers crossed.

We are nothing if not persistent.

Stay well!!!!

There is never an evening when, somewhere in the world, the music and lyrics of Jerry Herman are not being sung by a lady with a bugle and a lady in a red headdress descending a staircase. Mame and Dolly are the most popular, the most often performed, and the most successful musical heroines of all time! Their composer-lyricist believed in trying to make people hum on the way out of theatre with big smiles splashed across their faces.

This Broadway hit features all the best songs for women from such immortal musicals as Mame, Hello Dolly!, Milk and Honey, Mack and Mabel, A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine

Friends of the Stuttgart Theatre Center

Our story began when IMCOM made the decision to shutdown all the theaters in Europe. We were told in the Summer of 2016 that all productions were on hold indefinitely. It was then that a group of volunteers decided to meet and discuss the way ahead. The passion these volunteers had, and continue to have, for theater and, more specifically, for the Stuttgart Theatre Center (STC) drove them to figure out a way to keep theater alive for the USAG Stuttgart community. These volunteers were tireless in their efforts to save the STC or, if that failed, to determine an alternative way to keep on providing live theatrical entertainment for the USAG Stuttgart community.

In late Summer of 2016, word came down that the STC could go ahead and produce their first show for the 2016-2017 season. Then, a couple months later, funding was secured to ensure the entire 2016-2017 season would be saved. Today, the theater exists season-to-season never knowing what the future will bring. Theater, and the arts more generally, seem to be under attack around the country, and nowhere is that felt more keenly than at the STC.

2018 brought with it more promise and hope for the future of the STC than had been experienced the previous two years; however, the future, ever in doubt, drove the STC volunteers to finish what was started in 2016: create a private organization to support the STC. The Friends of the Stuttgart Theatre Center was born. While the paperwork to create the private organization has only just recently been submitted to the Garrison Commander, the volunteer base is strong and ready to move forward in helping make the STC better and stronger than ever!

The Friends of the Stuttgart Theatre Center’s mission can be summed up simply by saying that we exist to support the STC and to create more opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy and participate in live theater. We will promote and otherwise support STC shows and we will also host our own events geared at filling any theatrical gaps here in Stuttgart, Germany.

Is there anyone in the Group who would like to become Historian/Archivist for the Theater? They would organize all the Historical media we have and arrange to have shows videotaped and photographed.
