This guitar will be coming with me to this year’s GUITAR SUMMIT - Europe’s Biggest Guitar Show .

The idea of a hollow body guitar without a sound port has been around for a while. I very much like the concept as it allows me to built an electric guitar that handles high volumes well, while keeping its acoustic resonance. Dressed in aged Pelham Blue and loaded with Firebird pickups, this hollow body certainly has some hair to it.

Stop by booth 248 and try what an archtop can do.

This archtop is the most acoustic of the guitars I will bring to the GUITAR SUMMIT - Europe’s Biggest Guitar Show show.

While they are all built from a carved spruce top and mahogany back, sides and necks, the character of the specific instrument is defined by fine-tuning. Subtle changes to plate thickness, bracing height and the recurve area let me adjust the tone of the guitar. And yes, cutting two f-holes into the top changes quite a lot.

Since these details are best experienced in person, come by booth 248 to play the guitars and hear the difference for yourself.

After assembling the sides around the neck and tail blocks, I glue in the first set of linings, into which I fit the side reinforcements. A second set of linings locks everything in place and adds a great deal of stiffness.
This method is similar to the side construction found in classical guitars and offers a lightweight alternative to laminated sides.

For me, it’s a balance of strength, stability, and keeping the instrument as light and responsive as possible.

Breathing some life into the thing!

Carving and refining the edge of the soundhole is only a small part of the tuning process that gives the instrument its voice. Once this process is complete, the guitar top can “breathe” and develop a distinctive tone.
