Tomorrow at ✯ red square festival ✯, Что? will be displaying a preview of the upcoming exhibition 'Baron Bar' by Russian photographer Skaganga (Михаил Лебедев).

The series profiles the regulars of a bar in St Petersburg that's popular with shipyard and factory workers.

Most of them are over 50, and many of their personal stories reflect the struggles they encountered in adapting to life after the Soviet Union.

"They live without any gadgets, don‘t trust the government, and dislike businessmen, but importantly, they have preserved their sense of humour, enthusiasm and respect towards themselves and others" says the photographer, who became more than just drinking buddies with the bar's regulars over the five years he's been taking their photos.

To quote Withnail and I, we wanted to find the finest wines available to humanity.
Now, after a fair bit of sampling, we’re bringing them to our opening in Neukölln tomorrow! ⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’ve braved uphill Georgian country roads to venture to hidden vineyards, slid along icey Kyiv streets from wine shop to wine bar. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’ve dealt with agonising hangovers buying bubble wrap in the Ukrainian post office to smuggle bottles in a broken suitcase to Berlin.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Trust. This stuff is the s**t. So come join us on Friday to drink it before we do 😉🍷

We know it can be a bit tricky finding books from and about E.Europe in Berlin, so we’ve handpicked a great selection for next month’s event. ⠀

Expect to find everything from soviet sci fi to Groysian art theory and classical literature. We have a mix of English, Russian and German books - and the odd Georgian/Ukrainian ones too!

We're looking forward to exhibiting the work of activist and photographer Carolina Dutca, who will be displaying her documentary photo project 'NO SILENCE' at ЧТО? next month.

The series explores the challenges faced by the LGBT community in Transnistria, an unrecognised territory located between Moldova and Ukraine.

The first public declaration that an LGBT community exists in the breakaway region, the exhibition's debut in the de-facto capital of Tiraspol was cancelled due to pressure from local authorities.

Introducing one of our new members Zoopark Publishing Collective who will be selling their photography zine at the ЧТО? pop up event next month. ⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Zoopark was founded by two Russian photographers Tatyana Palyga and Alexander Bondar. Published in Russian and English, their latest issue contains a mixture of analogue photographs taken in St Petersburg during winter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The photos are imprinted with messages to future generations that were found in a time capsule. Buried 50 years ago during Soviet times, the capsule was re-opened again in 2017 on the centenary of the Russian revolution. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
