🗓️ Tomorrow! Join us for the first Fresh Pressed (At Last) at Vierte Welt.

Step into an audio-visual installation by media artist Udo Koloska, who will also share his work exploring our complex relationship with forests. Through sonic explorations and video documentation, he questions our understanding of nature in the anthropocene.

Dancer and researcher TingAn Ying will guide us through an intimate movement workshop before sharing insights from her practice of instant composition and her new project "Sometimes Nothingness" - an exploration of active rest and embodied stillness.

The evening concludes with a moderated dialogue between the artists.

In her work Feaver Weaver, 2020-2022, Blomberg explores the conceptual relations between photography and ryijy textiles. She weaves thermal and microscopic images, probing the warming quality and porous surface of the ryijy.

Engaging with soundscape through field recording, city sounds have been a significant study in my practice. Different perspectives emerge while considering listening to cityscapes as active research. A slowed inward listening approach to the city is a proposition to explore how the human and nonhuman is mediated by sound. A slowed interwoven piece is realized using sound fragments from personal archives of field recordings from Nairobi, Jinja, Berlin, Barcelona, Paris, Montreal. A narrative of a past, present, and future soundscape of cities is re-imagined, reflecting on the ongoing industrial revolutions of cities and sonic lives of the inhabitants - using sound as a distinctive medium of knowledge.

‘Retorno de Quetzalcoatl’ (EN: Return of Quetzalcoatl) is a techno-shrine for creating new imaginaries to an ancient myth through the multidimensional possibilities of contemporary generative neural network systems.

Retorno de Quetzalcoalt:
‘Quetzalcoatl arrived at Tlapalan.
And he disappeared in the sea.
He told his people not to weep for him.
That he would return.
Quetzacóatl went to Tlapalan, "The Land of Auroras", also "The land of red and black", "The Land of the Dawn",

Meet this Friday’s performing artists

Haesoo Eshu Jung is a sound artist and designer based in Berlin and Seoul. She takes great interest in magnifying individual human lives to universes of their own. Jung explores everyday rituals and tradition of acts in modern society, and her focus on communal sonic experiences and rituals revolves around spatial acoustics, performativity and sensory transcendence of cultural, social, political and personal perspectives.

The performance presented at grapples with individual and intrinsic recognition of ‘familiarity vs. unknown’. The performer will playback samples of native instruments from Korea - and slowly distort, morph, and synthesize the sounds for the listeners to find their own process of discovering and losing focal points of reflection, relation, familiarization (in relation to memory) for the duration of sonic destruction and evolution.

A new dance experiment by Biret & Gáddjá Haarla Pieski together with sound artist Hayden Dean
“Jođi lea buoret go oru - it is better to be on the move than being still”

Biret Haarla Pieski and Gáddjá Haarla Pieski are dancers and performers coming from Ohcejohka, the Finnish side of Sápmi. They graduated from the Finnish National Opera Ballet School in 2019. As of July 2022 they got their Bachelor in Dance Diplomas at P.A.R.T.S (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios) in Brussels. Recently Biret and Gáddjá Haarla Pieski premiered their new work Starting from Staring in Beursschouwburg in Brussels, in the frame of Art & Land - EU Sámi week 2022. They have made several collaborations together, for example with theater director Pauliina Feodoroff on a performance called Matriarchy, premiered in The Sámi Pavilion, Venice Biennale 2022, with visual artist Outi Pieski on a video installation Guhte Gullá / Here to Hear, Helsinki Biennale 2021 and with visual artist Marja Helander on an award winning short film Eatnanvuloš Lottit / Birds in the Earth, Sundance Film Festival 2018. They were nominated as the Young Artists of the Year 2021 by Riddu Riđđu festival.

Hayden is a UK born artist and composer whose practice revolves around installation and performative sonic art. Their work often centres on inner experience, language and reduction of hierarchies within sound and other materials. Dean’s work has recently been shown in the ZKM Center for Art and Media, Museum of Contemporary Art Gera. They worked with artist Aziz Hazara on the piece Takbir, presented in the 2022 Venice Biennale.
