If you’re amongst the many wondering what the BBC Symphony Orchestra is up to tonight - we’ll, we’ve got another fabulous BBC Proms concert lined up!

A personal pleasure for me to have my dear friend Dani Howard’s “Concerto for Brass - Signal” open the evening’s program and feature our amazing brass section.

Leonidas Kavakos is taking us on an exhilarating ride through Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto, and in the 2nd half, Paavo Järvi guides us through the kaleidoscopic landscape of Scriabin’s 2nd Symphony.

As always, listen live on BBC Radio 3 or catch us on BBC Sounds.

What a special day this was - an expectedly emotional concert, bidding farewell to a place many have called home for so long. Apart from the wonderful music beautifully played by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and gorgeously sung by the BBC Singers and soloists, it was the history of the studios and what it represented to so many who regularly tuned in to their favorite program or listened to the vast amount of music commissioned, recorded and broadcast from within these walls that was especially poignant.

As was Petroc Trelawny’s “Farewell, dear friend” sign off, after the gorgeous Serenade to Music by R. Vaughan Williams - which truly hit home.

This ridiculousness simply needs to end. The US, despite all of its regulatory red tape, has managed to sort out a federal regulation regarding musical instruments. Time for the Musicians Unions across Europe to lobby for a similar rule. 🎻 ✈️ ❤️

The violinist has spoken out after he was left with no choice but to refuse boarding a Vueling flight from Asturias to Barcelona, following a dispute over the airline's handling of his instrument in the cabin. Link in comments.
