First impressions of yesterday's premiere of WERT - chor. Massimo Gerardi - at ViaThea Street Festival/Görlitz

Thanks to all the members of the Dance Company who, despite the brief rehearsal period, engaged themeselves to build up a convincing performance! 👏

WERT portrays the complex identity of the dancer in the tension between artist and athlete, exploring the challenges in professional dance life that arise from these different aspects. The performance provides the dancers with a space to express their personal experiences and emotions while simultaneously navigating the demands of a dance profession that requires performance. The constant merging of these dimensions fosters a deeper understanding of the dancer's identity, which encompasses both artistic and athletic elements.
WERT also raises questions about the value of art and performance in society, particularly in the context of the stage: How are dancers perceived as artists, and to what extent does the audience's admiration for athletic movement influence this perception?
The audience is encouraged to reflect on these questions by engaging with a dancer who is not only a performer but also a complex, vulnerable, and struggling figure balancing between both worlds.
