It is officially spring in Germany and after many dark days we glimpse new hope as the first buds slowly unfurl with a promise that summer and sunnier days are on their way. 🌹🌷☀️

And so too I finally emerge with my first post since a long while. 😁

This piece was a long time in the making. I tweaked it so many times I lost count. But at the same time maybe this is the piece I've had the most fun creating to date.

What inspired me was Frida Kahlo especially the painting "Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird". I have loved her work for years and the creative way she puts herself into different backgrounds and adds so much symbolism to her work.

My painting stands for inner female beauty, power and strength. Just as in Frida Kahlo's above mentioned painting I added the jungle and black panther (swipe right). In my work the panther represents feminine power, grace, beauty and courage. The jungle stands for untamed yet natural beauty. The female in the portrait has heterochromia to symbolise rarity and also hidden attributes. In a world where she has experienced a lot of oppression the female now stands slightly in the shadows cautious and watchful. Yet the light dancing on her face speaks of playfulness as the sunlight slowly reveals who she is.

Just one and a half weeks and then I'm finally off on holiday! 😎🌞🇮🇹🥳

But until then I have a to do list of 101 things 😅.

So not surprising I haven't had so much time to create new art lately. But I went with a quicker style this week and just played around with some brushes to create this profile picture.

I like the summer vibes it's giving me (it's been all 🌧 here lately). And to be honesty I am kinda digging the 🕶!

A little while ago I created this parrot (you can see it a few posts down 🙂). Originally I always planned on setting the parrot around tropical plants. In the first week my plants just weren't coming together so out of desperation I created the brush stroke background and I found I didn't totally hate it!
It's always fun to see what creativity comes from just "winging it".

Still...I didn't want to give up and saw creating these plants as a personal challenge. I finally got around to it and am so glad I finished my original vision 💪

So I know that betta fish are pretty insane fighters and I don't really take enjoyment watching that... but they are also immensely beautiful and elegant and in a still image they look more like they are dancing. So when creating this, that's what I had in mind 😊

It is officially summer and the longest day in the year (for us europeans)today! The swimming pools are open again and the restaurants are the way they should be...busy. It feels like the city is finally breathing again. Let the summer begin! 🙌🌞🏖

I decided to illustrate in a similar style to my last post. When I was a kid I used to love drawing horses. I loved how they were so elegant but powerful at the same time. So this one is for the little kid in me...but hopefully a little better drawn than my five year old self used to 😁

Its been a little while since I've posted anything. I want to go live with my etsy page soon and still have a lot of work ahead! Until then I won't get around to posting as much.

But I did find some time to try my hand at digitally painting the macaw bird. I always loved their vibrant colours. I also wanted to experiment a little with different brushstrokes for the background to bring in more movement into the piece.

I had a lot of fun making my other "cloud girls" so I decided to continue with the series. This year we've had a lot of rain 🌧 in Germany. So many days the sky becomes a muddy grey...at least from our perspective. But it's nice then to think about the way things look on the other side of the clouds 🤔
