Professor Horst Bredekamp spoke with photo artist Matthias Schaller and Michael Beck about his and photography in general as well as the passion of making books.

UNENDLICHE GESCHICHTE (NEVER ENDING STORY)
From the Oehmen Collection

Exhibition opening, Friday, 11th March 2022, 7 p.m.

Since the 1980s, Lisa and Stephan Oehmen have been collecting art with a special focus on figurative painting. The Museum Ratingen presents the private collection in an extensive show together with a programme designed with the collector couple and the artists.
Thirteen artists have been selected whose works exemplify this eclectic collection and its history: Tim Berresheim, Andre Butzer, Miriam Cahn, Nschotschi Haslinger, Erika Hock, Dieter Krieg, Hartmut Neumann, Katja Novitskova, Judith Samen, Pieter Schoolwerth, Andreas Schulze, Ugur Ulusoy and Stefan a Wengen.

BE artist in exhibition!

HARTMUT NEUMANN is currently on view at KAI 10 | ARTHENA FOUNDATION.

The group exhibition Gulliver’s Sketchbook takes the visitors on an imaginary journey that follows the curiosity and fantasy.

In reference to Jonathan Swift’s novel Gulliver’s Travels, published in 1726, the exhibition spans an arc from the graphic recording of the outer world via filigree geometric constructions or traces and impressions of the body to the free and playful outline of surreal realms and scenarios. Here, the particular focus is on how the bodily activity of drawing relates to existing or imagined physical dimensions, also in respect to shifts in cultural-historical perspectives.

BE artist Aljoscha Anti-war Intervention in Kiew:

Bioism condemns any violence against humans, animals and plants. The suffering and war must be stopped! There is no justified conflicts, all of them are criminal, causing violence and pain to all kind of biological beings. Any kind of human ideology is violent per se: as for instance bloodthirsty motherland requires endless human sacrifices. Pacifism shall be extended to the peace and eudaimonia movement for all beings of this planet.

As an European artist of ukrainian-russian origin, I stood naked and unprotected as an animals and plants are in the silent protest against any kind of ideological madness.

With “Otto per Otto” (Eng: Eight for Otto), Rossella Vasta presents eight works created last year, dedicated as a homage to Otto Nehm, who died in 2006. The artist and the doctor, collector and patron of the arts from the German town of Witten were bound together in close friendship since the early Nineties.

Leiermann

Magnificent mirrors, reflecting parts of the interior, characterize the image subject of Matthias Schaller's photographic series »Leiermann«. These mirrors, however, have long since passed their heyday. They still hang in Venetian palazzi with a worn patina, cracks and traces of decay.
