Ab Morgen, Mi 7.9. ist in der Ritterstraße mein (neuer) Laden offiziell geöffnet.

Sowas wie eine Einweihung wird am dritten Samstag im September stattfinden.

-> Am Sa, den 20. August wird Drake Records geschlossen bleiben, aber dafür auf der Kuchenplatte (bei Bumann & Sohn) anzutreffen sein.
Wer also einen Ladenbesuch für kommenden Samstag in's Auge gefasst haben sollte, kann sich darüber freuen uns an anderer Stelle - mit noch mehr Auswahl (durch reichlich Kollegen und deren Platten) - zu denselben Zeiten (14 bis 19 Uhr) zu finden.

Scandal!

(I'm laughing my ass off. There is almost no reissues that do not involve at least one or two digital steps in the production process these days. But yeah; pay a fortune to get a 'guarantee' it would all be analog and this is the outcome.)

There is a reason why most collectors prefer original pressings (if you gotta have vinyl).

MoFi claimed its expensive reissues were purely analog reproductions. It had been deceiving its customer base for years.

Vielleicht kann der ja das Problem mit der Warenpost International oder auch gleich die ganze Krisen-Problematik lösen.
(Ein "Blues Brothers"-Sticker auf dem Fiat, der ihn brachte, wäre auf alle Fälle angemessen.)

Papst Franziskus hat sich Dienstagabend in der Nähe des Pantheons mit neuer Musik eingedeckt. Mit seinem Fiat 500 ließ er sich bei dem Plattenladen vorbeifahren. Der Besitzer sagt, Franziskus sei ein "langjähriger Kunde".

So.... heute letzte Gelegenheit!

Soviel konsequent 5,- u. 10,- Ware gab es in der gesamten bisherigen Geschichte des Ladens noch nicht auf einmal.
Ab Morgen früh steht das Zeug beim recordplanet (und da wird nicht viel übrig bleiben bei den Kursen).

Bis heute Abend spät noch zu begutachten, um das Beste raus zu picken.

Kommende Woche ist der Laden nochmal von Mo, 4.4. bis Do, 7.4. geöffnet, bevor es ab in die Niederlande zum recordplanet geht.

Es lohnt sich, vorher nochmal alles durchzustöbern, da sicherlich Einiges vom Bestand weggehen wird.
Insbesondere gibt es eine Menge Material in EUR 5,- Kisten (da wurde härter denn je ausgemistet).

Something that shows up sparsely at the store or more: this one rarely pops up anywhere -
an original Al Massrieen tape!

An Egyptian band founded in 1977 with a unique style that blended Oriental Folk vibes with Modern Soul, Disco/Boogie/Electrofunk, Rock and (Jazz-) Funk, sometimes with psyched infusions, other times with an almost Italo Disco feel.

Habibi Funk released a compilation with some of their songs in 2017.

I've never held one of their original releases in my hands as they're all cassettes (since that was a leading format not only in the Orient) and damn rare (particularly around here).
Only one „Best Of“ compilation (put out in 1980) of their music was released on vinyl back then.

There's some exciting music on this one for sure!

A gem from the store's Tape section:

Lucio Battisti's third album "Amore e non amore".
Released in 1971 and created as a concept album - one side is the non love, the other the love side.

This original Italian cassette comes in beautiful orange/red'ish look and has the og tray with an embossed label logo on the back and is in great condition. Also it's play-tested and does it's job really well, given the +/- 40 years this tape has seen.

Musically we're talking about a mixture of Singer/Songwriter/Folk and Psychedelic (Rock) with a slight groovy R&B edge here and there.

My personal favourite is the song "Seduto Sotto Un Platano" - if your vision of Rare Groove includes David Axelrod's way of combining irresistible grooves from the jazzy and slightly funky R&B end with symphonic, psychy strings and you can also deal with some Scott Walker plus the "Dusty Fingers" compilation series is your cup of tea, then this number will probably get you!

The long-player compiles the most exciting material of the group that was comprised of Turkish and Greek musicians, recorded between 1968 and 1973.
Their style shines between Laiko (a Greek urban Folk style) and Beat/Surf/60s Instro material (which was strongly present in the Turkish music scene of the 60s to early 70s), sometimes with some R&B/Soul'ish and funky grooves.
The special vibes created by the crossover of traditional melody lines/harmonies and the influence of popular to underground music
of the day are what makes this release great.

In der Tape-Ecke neu eingetroffen und ziemlich außergewöhnlich, nicht wegen Interpret und Album aber betreffs Sound und Herkunft.

Eine Saudi-Arabische Version von Stevie Wonder's "Talking Book".

Natürlich - wie früher allgemein üblich - ein Ferro-Band, aber mit derartiger Dynamik und Stereo-Panorama, daß man sofort beginnt, aufzuhorchen.

Was auch immer die Herrn da unten damals als Duplikator verwendet haben, es war vermutlich eines jener Geräte mit riesigen Köpfen.

Wirklich erstaunlich - nach +/- 40 Jahren. Eine der, wenn nicht die bestklingendste Version des Albums, die mir je untergekommen ist.

Wurde höchste Zeit, seit Langem mal ein neues Mixtape raus zu hauen!

Das "ÖZGÜRLÜK YOLLARI" Tape beinhaltet von DJ Phoney handverlesene türkische Perlen und wird ab Freitag im Laden erhältlich sein.

Ein paar Jährchen Sammeln und ein nennenswerter Betrag für Scheiben sind hier handlich hörbar versammelt.

Eine Melange aus Psych, Rock, Beat, Funk, Soul, Jazz und Folk, die sich gewaschen hat (oder auch nicht -> funky halt 😃).
Von Rüçhan Çamay bis Selçuk Alagöz, Barış Manço (der nahezu unumgänglich ist) bis Lili Ivanova (über deren bulgarisch akzentuiertes Türkisch sich letztens noch jemand aufregte - die Nummer ist trotzdem ein Knaller!) oder Tülay (Knaller-Nummern, aber das Sekrtärinnen-Outfit...!) und noch reichlich mehr Interpreten (den Begriff wollte ich immer schonmal benutzen!).

Was die Cover/Inlays/Trays und die Gestaltung der Kassetten angeht, so werden einige unterschiedliche Exemplare zu anzutreffen sein.

Eine davon wird von Drake Records' Ernest Drake geleitet werden und nimmt sich des - für Manche eher ungewöhnlich klingenden - Themas an "Was trieb Rory Gallagher in und um Köln herum?".
