The season finale of Game of Thrones is here! I have been following this epic storytelling of fire, ice, dragons, and thrones since 2011. For some viewers; the visual presentation of the story may seem too graphic with heinous and continuous bloodshed, abuse, torture, and s*x but in my opinion all those scenes were necessary and crucial to visualize the script in an authentic manner and to do a proper judgment of the masterpiece book series written by George R.R. Martin. I reckon it is not a story for soft-hearted viewers who expect a ‘Hero’ in every story; fighting the villain/villains throughout the story and eventually saving the day by defeating the villain with his shining sword and armor. Rather it is a story where any type of pre-assumption about a character is almost impossible because the characters also change and take different shapes as the story flows. There is neither an absolute problem like a villain nor an absolute solution like a hero throughout 80% of the story. Every character has their fair share of opportunities to surround themselves with various moral and ethical challenges and most of them may claim that they have passed those challenges in the right manner for their sake. Hence almost all the characters may have tasted a few moments of being a protagonist in the story but the decisions they have made to claim that or to pass those challenges surely altered the perception and impression of viewers on those characters. ‘Game of Thrones’ may be categorized as a fantasy series but the story and the show found a way to illustrate strong perceptions about a few crucial and complicated issues of reality and our day to day lives; such as Greed of power, cunning features of diplomats and politicians, Blindness of faith and of course the absurd Gods and their continuous demands for violence and sacrifices. Various metaphors and complexity of the ex*****on of those metaphors resulted in debates, countless interpretations, and theories about the plot of the story. One of the theories claim that the famous saying of the show- “Winter is coming” is actually used as a metaphor to spread and warn about the facts behind climate change and the character ‘Knight King’ can also be seen as the consequences of climate change that can end with the extinction of human race and the destruction of civilization as we know it. In such context, I wonder, what could the blue-eyed dragon that melted and destructed the North wall of ice in the final scene of the 7th season mean? Global warming/ Industrial pollution/plastic waste/increasing demand for palm oil? Who knows! But I would like to know the opinions of other viewers of the show.
