Heroineswave produces every year a nomadic exhibition in a country where womxn are not encouraged to express themselves freely about their hidden desires and pains.

We believe that everyone needs a space, even if it’s a temporary one, to open our boxe of secrets and connect with others without pretending, overprotecting, fearing Other, the dark shadow of the Difference that we are afraid of.

Before the exhibition, we investigate about women artists struggles. From morning till evening, we try to meet as many women as possible, just to get a chance to listen to diverse point of views.

In October, wanna Frick and Celia Stroom met 80 women in 3 regions of Uzbekistan.

Next step: applying to European grants and looking for an Uzbek coproducer. ✨✨✨

HW is a group of volunteer cultural managers. One of their focus is to research about new curatorial approaches for women artists. Every year, HW produces an itinerant exhibition project, where all the selected artists take up the challenge to create together about their personal secrets during a residency. Their body, and mind might be shaken by the workshops that happen every day, but after a month together they will have pushed away the fences of their enclosed garden. In that context, we defend that exhibition is a tool for the artist to go beyond her borders and change her methodology inspired by other colleagues selected on the project.

If you are a curator, a cultural manager, an art producer interested by this curatorial approach, please get in touch with us, we are going to set up a research group to brainstorm about these topics in Berlin in January.

✨⭐️💥 OPEN CALL FOR TESTIMONIES 💥⭐️✨
‘THE WEAVE’: A Tapestry of Intimate Testimonies

Following the Trans Day of Remembrance on November 20th, 2021, people and organisations around the world mobilise to counter the anti-trans violence we face every day.
With the podcast series The Weave, three female-identifying, non-binary and q***r composers imagine a sonic world that helps to empower and uplift isolated voices. In a context where everyone is locked up, whether physically, emotionally or financially, it is important to recall that our situations are shared, our thoughts are common, and there are ways to relieve isolation and support each other. We can see each other, we can listen to each other. Can we imagine together what such a shared space would sound like? For their podcast, Berlin-based sound artist Kim W. aka Bodyfool listens to testimonies, voices, and stories from folks worldwide who are open to sharing their experience of body modifying measures and transition. How did the process feel immediately before and after? How did you experience hospitalisation and recovery? How do you feel about your body now? How has sexual in*******se and intimacy changed, with partners and in solo? Kim W. wants to create a space of solidarity under which a mutual exchange is possible instead of fetishizing people and their experience.

How does it work?
The composer will gather stories until December 9th, in the form of conversations online or in person in Berlin. You can email Kim directly with a short description of what you would like to talk about, and a little bit about yourself. You can also send an audio recording of your voice, but also of other sounds –sounds of your body, of your surroundings, the news, anything!

And then? Depending on the topics raised in the conversations, and based on what resonates with them, Kim will create a podcast that will be released early January 2022. Heroines’Wave, an international, intersectional feminist network dedicated to exploring the paradoxes surrounding intimacy, is developing an online interface adapted to mobile phones and accessible for people with disabilities. This mobile page hosts The Weave, a series of podcasts discussing and sounding q***r intimacies; three episodes have so far been comissioned and we hope to create a full, complex, deep labyrinth of shared experiences with a second round of podcasts later in 2022.

The #HeroinesWave have been for a month of investigation in Uzbekistan to figure out how the festival #TheEnclosedGarden could be set in Sept 2022. They are supported by @ifa and Akademie der Kunste Berlin

-
Their process of investigation is quite intense, like in Georgia and in Thailand.

Starting from scratch, they met as many women as possible, artists, cultural managers, activist, craftwomen, women with artistic skills, cultural institutions, ngo about human rights, galleries, potential residency spaces, exhibition venues.

After more than 60 interviews, they are now figuring out with Uzbek artists and cultural managers how to develop the first residency for women in art therapy & multidisciplinary contemporary art workshop in Uzbekistan.

We believe that individuals / citizens can always try to work on new cultural policies by inventing new formats of art gatherings.

#lyrics #collective #polyphony Ending #TheEnclosedGarden #TEGthailand > singing everyday. Like a mantra > a moment where we can all agree no matter our cultural differences >> whenever we sing we are equal and united ☄️

➡️ The singing practice is one of the main ingredient of this brand new method of exhibition. When artists are singing together, they somehow forget their Self and listen to others, and even try to reach others. Because of the harmony that brings singing practice, if you start and end an exhibition with a vocal performance, you can be quite sure that in between these 2 artistic interventions, all the artworks, painting, sculpture, performances, etc, will be more grounded and sincere. A method explored by the curator of this exhibition

They sing lyrics that Celia wrote observing them day after day during the residency ⬇️

🎶 Silences in the shadow
Won’t kill my inner rainbow

I am textures
I am colors
I am corners
I am pleasures
I am the key
To open my Enclosed Garden

I sew flowers on my memories
To dissolve definitely my inner tears

I classify inside my brain
The screams, the hopes that still remains

They whisper in polyphony
To free my thoughts & my body from agony

HEROINES

Every year, starting from 2019, female artists from different countries and disciplines gather in countries in development. Individually and collectively they question the subject of female intimacy in a region of the world where the topic is still neglected. For their first session, Heroines choose the city of Tbilisi.

Through a multidimensional event composed of an interdisciplinary laboratory and daily talks about art, philosophy, medicine and anthropology, international and Georgian artists study themselves as women and share these reflections with the audience in a final exhibition-show. The challenge is to create, throughout the observation of cultural differences, intense and uncompromising conceptual artworks where everyone can explore and question their own intimacy and that of others. They thus intent to break down longstanding stereotypes and social barriers around the women’s place in a patriarchal society.

These are the disciplines of the collective for the first session 2019:

  • polyphony
  • Kunst & Unterhaltung in der Nähe
