“No party is complete without cocktails! My friends all have different tastes when it comes to their drink of choice, so I like to maintain a well-stocked bar with different kinds of alcohol to keep everyone happy.” ~Khloe Kardashian

One of the best ways people get together and bond over life is through drinking. For a fun night out, cocktails provide a wide arrangement of scents and flavors to keep everything exciting and have a long history of becoming a steady staple in people’s lives. So, let us dive right in and see what World Cocktail Day is all about.

In 1806, The Balance and Columbian Repository coined the term “cocktail” as a stimulating liquor with a wide variety of sweets, waters, and bitters. Originally, the Oxford English Dictionary defined the term with a different set of connotations, describing it as a horse with a tail like a cock’s, with its tail cocked up instead of hung down. Cocktails as a drink, however, started as a British invention in the 19th century and has since become an American innovation when a Connecticut-born bartender Jerry Thomas wrote the book “The Bartender’s Guide.” The Bartender’s Guide basically broadcasted an encyclopedia of how to mix drinks and recipes on some of the best combinations of drinks and flavors.

During the 1920s American prohibition, many cocktails were mixed into existence that remain firm favorites today. With not much high-quality alcohol available, cocktails were the perfect way to make that smuggled rum, gin or whiskey just a little bit more drinkable. Enter the cocktail; rum mojitos, the Sidecar, and the Tom Collins all flourished at a time when recreational alcohol wasn’t legal. The ‘Bee’s Knees’ cocktail was actually created to mask and sweeten the taste of illegally brewed bathtub gin. The roaring twenties took the cocktail and shook it up into some of our most popular modern-day cocktails. Drinking didn’t stop during the prohibition, people simply went underground. Many illegal speakeasies popped up, serving cocktails in jazz-style locales...

Wines have always been a popular drink for thousands of years. One special drink is Moscato, made with a kind of grape that used since the Rennaissance times of Italy.

Italian wines have always had a reputation for their variety. Those made from the Moscato grape have a uniqueness that can be identified by people everywhere.

Their sparkling, rich and yet so light flavor that is popular as a party drink. Moscato Day aims to celebrate the history and taste of this delicate wine.

The viticulture of wine has been known to be around as long as the grapevine. The vine is native to the area south of the Black Sea near the disputed territories of Georgia and Armenia. Wine-making is most believed to have originated in Mesopotamia as early as 3000 BC and helped influence Egypt before dynastic times.

Wine production in Italy is believed to have originated from the influence of the Etruscans civilization that lived in today’s Tuscany. It’s also likely to have influenced by the Mesopotamian civilizations before the Greeks brought winemaking to Sicily.

The Romans improved the winemaking process, and thus became famous for their abilities. Even as wine grew and fell in popularity, it continued to be produced by Christian monks during the Renaissance.

It wasn’t until the 19th and 20th centuries that wine production became regulated. Today, Italian wine is considered highly prized for its process and flavor.

Moscato is made from the Moscato Blanco grape, one of the oldest grapes in Italy. Moscato is popular for its variety of flavors, such as light and dry, sweet and sparkling or the rich dessert wine.

As the third most popular wine in the United States, Moscato has become a popular party drink. It has variations such as white, red, and rose to compliment all kinds of delicious foods. So, grab a glass and drink away!

The wind in your hair, the city whizzing past, that wonderful gliding feeling…nothing could ever quite beat riding a bike. Not to mention how many health benefits riding a bike offers! What contraption deserves its own day as much as the bike does?

The History of Bike Month
The first mechanically-propelled, two-wheeled vehicle, or what could be called the father of the bicycle, was likely first built by a Scottish blacksmith named Kirkpatrick Macmillan in 1839, although nobody knows for certain. Shortly afterwards, various European inventors followed up on the invention, adding elements familiar to the cyclist of today such as the rear-wheel drive and hand-operated brakes. Modern bicycles are the most efficient human-powered means of transportation known to man in terms of the energy a person must expend to travel a given distance—in other words, thy are extremely practical. For this reason and dozens of others, bicycles have been used by people

For this reason and dozens of others, bicycles have been used by people of all walks of life, including mailmen, salesmen, police officers, paramedics and even troops. Bicycles have also greatly influenced humanity as a whole, by helping to reduce traffic congestion and both air and noise pollution. They have also been linked to significant reductions in poverty, with families’ incomes increasing by up to 35% in countries such as Sri Lanka and Uganda when there is at least one bicycle in the household. Bike Month, held in May, was created in 1956 to celebrate bikes and all the wonderful things they’ve done and continue to do for us.

When we think of Superheroes, it’s all too common that what comes to mind is a man or woman in a tight-spandex suit that is often brightly colored, garishly patterned, and inevitably has the underwear on the outside. But there are other kinds of a superheroes in the world, those that wear Fireman’s Uniforms or Police Uniforms, those that drive ambulances or Medivac Helicopters, and sometimes they just wear the clothes of mother or father hard at work. Superhero Day is there to remind us that superheroes can come in any shape, size, or color, and being one is more about valor of the heart than super-powers.

History of Superhero Day
Superhero Day first got its start in 1995, when Marvel Comics employees went out into the world to ask what superpowers kids would want to have. The results were people talking about superheroes in their own lives, and how they often looked like your normal person. Superhero Day reminds us that all too often superheroes are just everyday people who rise to the occasion when threats call and that this is an ideal that we can pass on and practice in our daily lives.

Every day men and women go out in the world and face threats to their lives and livelihood to help protect others from the dangers of fire, crime, and unexpected health issues, but the list of superheroes in real life doesn’t end there. Someone helping the homeless with food or clothes, comforting a crying stranger, or stopping to help someone with a flat tire on the side of the road can all be considered superheroes. When Superhero Day comes around, keep your eyes open for these superheroes in disguise and be sure to give them some recognition.

There’s something special about a pretzel, the rich warm bready smell, the burst of salt as you bite into it, and in the best of time, the delicious flavor of cheese that you dip it in. Or maybe you’re one of those who prefer the crunch of the kind you can buy in a bag at the store, that amazing addition to any snack mix, and the foundation of sports gatherings everywhere. Whatever your preference, Pretzel Day exemplifies this amazing treat in all its forms. So grab your favorite variety, sit back and munch down on the most auspicious of snack based days!

History of Pretzel Day
Like all food related holidays, we like to start with a little history of where the food came from. We love the story of the pretzel, especially as it shares a theme with candy canes, another of our favorites! (In fact, Candy Cane Pretzels, dusted with crushed candy canes instead of salt and glazed with frosting, are a great winter time treat!).

Sometime during the Middle Ages, Catholic Monks were trying to figure out what to do with these bits of leftover dough. Clever as they were, they came up with the pretzel, folding the dough into the shape of praying hands, or the knot representing the Holy Trinity, depending on who you ask.

Since then the pretzel has evolved into a much loved treat has seen many uses, including representing marriage (where the term ‘tying the knot’ came into prominence) and finally into modern day as a popular addition to concession stands at carnivals and events of all kinds.

The origin of the hard pretzel is a bit more recent, and is among the ranks of other great accidental discoveries like the potato chip. You see, apparently when you leave a pretzel in the oven too long, it will bake into a crisp and crunchy bit of deliciousness. The baker was so pleasantly surprised with the result that he took the time to perfect the recipe, and now they’re a hugely popular snack!

THE STORY OF APRIL 23 NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY AND CHILDREN’S DAY IN ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY
Every year, April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, which Atatürk made a present to all the world’s children, is celebrated with the same enthusiasm. So, what is the story of this date, which is a national holiday both in the Republic of Turkey and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus? Here is the story of April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day...This meaningful day emerged after three national holidays had been combined into the one. The first of them was “April 23 National Holiday”, which symbolized the first meeting of the Grand National Assembly in Ankara, the second was the “National Sovereignty Holiday (Hakimiyet-i Milliye Bayramı)”, which symbolized the abolition of the sultanate, and was celebrated on the 1st of November until 1935 before combined with “April 23 National Holiday”. The last was the “April 23 Children Day” declared by the Turkish Association for Protection of Children (Himaye-i Etfal Cemiyeti) in 1927. After the 1980 coup d’etat, National Security Council gave its present name as “April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.”
As mentioned above, April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day is a national holiday created by combining three other holidays. In the beginning “Children Day” was another day, and “National Sovereignty” and “April 23 Holiday” were separate holidays, they were combined as “Children Holiday”.
April 23 is children day and it is related to the opening of the GNAT; however, the opening of the GNAT was celebrated separately from children day until 1981.
This was the known history of the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. Atatürk dedicated this day to all children of the world and pioneered to celebrate this day in every year by children with same joy and cheer.
We wish a happy Children Day to all children and we wish them to spend their lives with health, joy and cheer. Happy April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. @nachbarberlin

That’s about the perfect sentiment we can think of for a nice cup of tea. Tea is a wonderful drink that comes in a wide variety of different flavors, each of them having a distinct personality and character. It’s been used for everything from a simple morning libation to the central element of certain social and religious rituals. So important is this amazing drink that taxing it was the final straw that ignited a fledgling country revolution! Tea Day celebrates this fantastic beverage and the seemingly endless list of things it can do.

History of Tea Day
The History of Tea Day reaches far back into the world’s history but can be narrowed down to a place of origin that is surprisingly precise. The intersection of Latitude 29N and Longitude 98E, a place notable as the joining of NE India, Burma, China, and Tibet. There are mythological origins as well, some of them merely interesting, and others quite gruesome. In one period in China, the Emperor had ordered that all people of his nation would boil their water before drinking it. So it came to pass that the Emperor was sitting drinking a simple cup of boiled water when leaves from a nearby tree blew into it, creating the first tea.

In another tale, a man sat meditating in front of a wall for 9 years when he accidentally fell asleep. On waking he was so disgusted with his weakness that he severed his eyelids and threw them to the ground, where they sprouted into the first tea bushes. A little disturbing, perhaps, but utterly Asian in its style. Regardless of its origins (which may be in dispute) the importance of tea cannot be understated. We strongly encourage you to research it!

Since it would be impossible to cover it’s entire history here, we should at least address what tea is, and isn’t. Officially speaking tea is an infusion of the leaves of Camellia Sinensis, an unassuming evergreen from Asia. What it is not is anything that does not contain these leaves. While infusions of herbs not containing these leaves may be referred to as ‘Herbal Teas’, they are not in fact teas at all. Only those infusions which contain the Camellia Sinensis leaves can properly be called tea. Got it? Good...
