Last days to visit the exhibition
“Get Used to My Body, I Live Quite Comfortably in It”
by Eva Kot’àtkovà at Kunsthalle Bratislava.

“The square functions as a petri dish of multilayered social encounters and interactions. Almost as a strangely premeditated, carefully constructed meticulously and precisely choreographed and timed experiment. Even though it all seems to be happening naturally. (…)
Czech, internationally renowned artist, Eva Koťátková’s first solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Bratislava – stepping into the complex web of ongoing relations in the square – is presented on the ground level of the institution, in direct contact with the surrounding environment through the large storefront windows. Koťátková’s practice explores, analyses, and symbolically relates to, and comments on, situations precisely like those taking place in the square. Her long-term interest lies in the role of institutionalized forms of power and established social units, such as community, family, and their politically-defined controlling mechanisms. Through her complex artistic practice, Koťátková maps their formative influences on an individual, no matter how and if such a person, can or wants to, actually belong to the given predefined structures.” Curated by Jen Kratochvil.

Vault, 4K, 11:23 min, 2021

“The building of the Dutch Embassy, designed by Bauhaus architect Marcel Breuer in 1959, is located in the centre of The Hague. On the top floor of the west wing there is a part that is protected by armoured doors. The Vault. These rooms are bare, stripped of decorations and lost pipes protrude from the suspended ceiling. Partly covered with aluminium foil and the windows darkened with a special layer of varnish. The Vault was, and still is, inaccessible to the public.”

Ulla von Brandenburg
“Blue and Yellow Shadows”
03 Jul–12 Sep 2021

Performances:
03 Jul 2021 at 2pm, 4pm and 6pm

@levoyageanantes
Passage Sainte-Croix, Nantes, France.

“Ulla von Brandenburg has created a body of work inspired by the theatre, its imagery and conventions. Through the notion of rituals, she invites visitors to take part in an immersive and renewed experience of the themes, forms, and motifs that run through her work – like movement, the stage, colour, music, and textiles, to name a few.
Taking cues from literature, psychology, and film, she stages space in a way that questions the relationships between illusion and reality, the audience and actors. She creates lavish works imbued with beauty and mystery that are adapted to each one of her exhibition spaces.
Using Passage Sainte-Croix for its primary function – i.e., as a pathway through one of Nantes’ oldest neighbourhoods – Ulla von Brandenburg transforms it by spreading her work throughout the arcade. The artist’s different media (videos, installations and sculptures) inhabit the passageway, unfolding as visitors walk through the exhibition.
Like different acts of a play, the artist divides this work into chapters, inviting visitors to contemplate them as they stroll through Passage Sainte-Croix.

The film Blaue und Gelbe Schatten (“Blue and Yellow Shadows” – 2021) was co-produced with the Georg Kolbe Museum in Berlin.”

Congratualtions Miriam!✨💐

Miriam Cahn will be awarded the 14th Rubens Prize from the city of Siegen in 2022.

"Miriam Cahn represents an obstinate painterly position of great expressiveness. Subjective perceptions and feelings are combined in her works with social and political questions. The focus is on the body with all its fragility and exposure – also to external factors – as in the works on refugees situation particularly evident is. The relationship between the human body and the machine is as much a theme as well as the organic, in the sense of connections between human and non-human beings. From the beginning of her development, Cahn has adopted a consciously feminist, independent and uncompromising stance. Her painting has unfolded free of academic rules and aesthetics in a wide variety of forms and materials.“ – the jury.

In the summer of 2022, the Kunsthalle Bielefeld will present an exhibition dedicated to water. Based on its collection of 20th and 21st century art, it follows the questions: What do we see when we look at water? What themes, objects and contexts emerge when we turn our gaze to water in art? In the exhibition, representations of the sea, lakes, rivers and harbours are combined with works that use water as an artistic material and with more recent works that revolve around current debates. Together they span the immense field of projection that the element holds within itself: Water as idyll, resource, trade route, force of nature and commodity, water as medium and indicator of transformation, vitality and creation, and water as locating habitat or home and escape.

As part of the prologue to the exhibition “DEM WASSER FOLGEN” (2022), two works by Katinka Bock are already installed in summer 2021.

The exhibition “Publicity / Counter-publicity” by John Miller is opening today at Kunsthalle Bielefeld.
You can also join the opening online via Zoom.

The question of the mediatised image and its normative effect on the perception of “world” or “reality” is central to the work of John Miller (*1954, lives in New York and Berlin). Emerging from the environment of the so-called “Picture Generation”, with companions such as Mike Kelley or Jim Shaw, his post-conceptual approach encompasses sculpture, painting, photography and video.
