Marianne Dissard's CIBOLA GOLD review > "Of all the cross-cultural, cross-genre musical experiments of recent years, one of the most intriguing is French singer Marianne Dissard's inspired marriage of French chanson with American indie bands from Tucson, Arizona. Unlikely as that combination may sound, the reality is that between 2008 and 2014, Dissard (who lived in Tucson for twenty years) recorded four albums featuring collaborations with some of Tucson's finest, including members of Calexico, Giant Sand, and XIXA."
"............Sung largely in French, this is an album that's by turns serious, humorous, strident, gentle and, above all, absolutely unique, as songs like 'It's Love' prove. A deft marriage that brings two seemingly disparate musical forms together and, through some inexplicably strange alchemy, turns them into something else, something that's hard to describe but something that's pretty wonderful nevertheless" - Dave Haslam for R2 (Rock'n'Reel) Magazine

This review, from England > "Of all the cross-cultural, cross-genre musical experiments of recent years, one of the most intriguing is French singer Marianne Dissard's inspired marriage of French chanson with American indie bands from Tucson, Arizona. Unlikely as that combination may sound, the reality is that between 2008 and 2014, Dissard (who lived in Tucson for twenty years) recorded four albums featuring collaborations with some of Tucson's finest, including members of Calexico, Giant Sand, and XIXA. - Cibola Gold (Cibola being the legendary cities rumoured to be located somewhere in the American southwest) brings together thirteen tracks from those albums, plus a more recent one recorded with French guitarist Yan Pechin , and singer Allyson Ezell, on a contradictory collection that isn't exactly chanson and isn't exactly indie and yet it's both of those things, and then some. - Sung largely in French, this is an album that's by turns serious, humorous, strident, gentle and, above all, absolutely unique, as songs like 'It's Love' prove. Hugo Race Fatalists – Ballad of Easy Rider | Video | SENTIREASCOLTARE

That's soon! THE BLUE HOUR Sessions IV
On the 11th Hugo Race will present his book Road Series
at Z-Bar Berlin.

In the meantime, Hugo writes from Italy where he is touring with the True Spirit - today , the premiere for the Ballad of Easy Rider' video , presented in his own words:
"Nearly 50 years after its release on the Easy Rider Motion Picture Soundtrack, this quintessential song of the 1960s - recorded for the new Hugo Race Fatalists album, 24 Hours to Nowhere - angles a haunting hippiesque naivety in counterpoint to the current epoch of cynicism and superficiality; and also, it's an incredible song apparently written by Dylan but attributed to the Byrds' Roger McGuinn. Our little home movie, here exclusively world-premiered by Italian webzine sentireascoltare, was shot in the spring rains of northern France and western Germany and cut by bry3500 himself, Mr Bryan Colechin. The track features Sacri Cuori, Vicki Brown's desert violins and Michelangelo Russo's alchemical harp. As the electrosmog fades and the floods recede, can you smell the roses?"

Hugo Race on Books and Arts - ABC Radio

Next: The Blue Hour Session IV - on the 11th of June

from Hugo's page : "Talking Road Series on mic with Michael Cathcart at RN Arts and Letters last week. This wireless broadcast was national ABC but it can be streamed from the link below. Strange the comments one makes live to air early in the morning after too many long blacks following a sleepless night - but that's what makes radio so real, you can't re-edit, photoshop or otherwise censor the stream of consciousness once it gets up to speed and anyway, friends, we never had control....."

Musician Hugo Race has written a memoir, Road Series, that's been described as a vagabond road poem.
