Kunstraum Richard Sorge

Our exhibitions and events reach a young, and international audience, but adventurous discerning art lovers as well. The art space is named after the communist spy (Ian Fleming's model for James Bond) that reputedly saved the Western world from Nazism. Its well researched and eclectic curatorial projects focus on Craftism, club/kinetic art, alternative sexualities/identities, and subcultures. Like its namesake, the initiative independently works from a marginal, yet cosmopolitan position to ultimately save the world.

The fantastic sculptures of Iria Do Castelo. The Spanish artist offers an affordable assemblage sculpture workshop at SomoS, Dec 7&8.

Introducing some more work from Spanish multidisciplinary artist Iria Do Castelo, who will be guiding the Fantastic Beings: Body Sculpting & Assemblage Workshop. This time we present her series "Creatures", which aims to distort the domestic environment.

In her workshop, body sculpting, assemblage and found objects may come together in curious ways, just like in her "Creatures" series.

The workshop is open to anyone, artist or not, from 18 years and above. Please register by sending an email to [email protected] by December 1.
60 euros for both days, December 7-8, including material (can bring additional objects to incorporate into sculpture).

Busy setting up the soft sculpture/fiber art exhibition WonJu Kim - Healing the Process by #ArtistInResidence Wonju Kim (KR). Opening November 21st, 6-9pm at SomoS! In her solo show, WonJu illuminates the journey of her recuperation from injuries caused by a car accident and its very tangible impact on her creative work, embedding it in a broader discourse on artistic production, domesticity, disability, loss and recovery. "Healing the Process" highlights this personal recovery while simultaneously incorporating larger themes that have become central to her identity as a South Korean citizen, woman and artist searching for a collective sense of healing.

Playground Berlin Weekend at Mica Moca
site-specific installations & performances

An international selection of artists has been invited by Playground Berlin to conceive site specific work for the Mica Moca building, a former safe factory in Berlin Wedding. The presentation covers performances, installations, video-art and concerts.

Established in 2009, Playground Berlin is an international collective dedicated to independent art collaboration and presentation. Blurring generational, national, cultural and sexual boundaries, Playground Berlin's projects offer a delirious convergence of visual art, music, mixed media installations and performances. Curated by Marcela Donato & Kunstraum Richard Sorge. Thanks to Tiago Oudman.

Portrait Arrows by Karl Addison & James Bullough at Playground Berlin / Mica Moca

A collaboration art installation for Playground Berlin Weekend. An international selection of artists had been invited to conceive site specific work for the Mica Moca building, a former safe factory in Wedding.

James’s work explores the balance between contrasting elements. Abstract graffiti inspired backgrounds live with color and texture are met with intensely realistic images. Highly rendered portraits float atop layers of ambient space and geometric forms. Contemporary street art techniques and materials collide with those of the realist oil painters James admires.

Addison’s purpose (it seems) is three-fold: to amuse us the first time we discover one of his pieces, to draw us in—inviting us to take a closer look, and to make us stop and see every minute detail—and in a sense, to stop and see him.
