🖤 When I was little, I asked my grandmother why she has tattoos in her face, she answered me with remorse that when she was young, all girls got them done, and that they used to make the girls who wore them even more beautiful, nothing more it was a body decoration for her and her friends back than. . Her generation is one of the last people who were part of the Berber tattooing culture, sadly I don’t know of anyone left who continues this art. . And unfortunately with colonization and religion came change, it wiped out lots of traditions and changed the perspectives on how to look at life for many people. . I will be heading back to morocco and my family this coming spring, I have this dream to find the last woman who knows about this practice and the way of sharing the Berber tattoo tradition. I am looking so forward to this project and collect as much information as I can. (Tips welcome) . I have the privilege to speak and understand the language, and I have this dream to revive something that came from a much deeper meaning, my ancestors beliefs and something that is just part of me, it is in my blood and I am so eager to figure all of this out...🙌🏽 I will give my best to not let this tradition die out...and I mean by that not a westernized rebirth. . Her generation is one of the last people who were part of the Berber tattooing culture, sadly I don’t know of anyone left who continues this art. . And unfortunately with colonization and religion came change, it wiped out lots of traditions and changed the perspectives on how to look at life for many people. . I will be heading back to morocco and my family this coming spring, I have this dream to find the last woman who knows about this practice and the way of sharing the Berber tattoo tradition. I am looking so forward to this project and collect as much information as I can. (Tips welcome) . I have the privilege to speak and understand the language, and I have this dream to revive something that came from a much deeper meaning, my ancestors beliefs and something that is just part of me, it is in my blood and I am so eager to figure all of this out...🙌🏽 and I will give my best to not let this tradition die out...and I mean by that not a westernized rebirth. .
