🔥NEW ARRIVAL🔥

Eugène Atget - Voir Paris

“Conceived like a poetic and visual stroll, Voir Paris takes us into a time machine through street traders, stalls, the courtyards of buildings, well off interiors, alleyways, cafes, local rag dealers, urban gardens, the banks of the Seine…
Preferring the early morning light, his absolute mastery of framing, his careful attention to the lines of buildings, to unexpected details and abandoned items develop a unique world.”

@marcpschroeder's Order 7161 published by @eriskayconnection

German and English editions available!

On 16 December 1944, Stalin ordered an estimated 70,000 ethnic Germans living in Romania forcibly deported to Soviet labour camps as a form of reparations for Germany’s actions during the war. Many perished in the harsh conditions of the camps, infamous for freezing temperatures and rampant malnutrition. Marc Schroeder met with 40 of the last living survivors, and here recounts their stories and memories through eyewitness reports, archival and contextual images, and a selection of recorded testimonials. ‘ORDER 7161’ reveals a frequently overlooked chapter of European history, yet also provides crucial insight into the cultural memory of this collective trauma.

⭐ Back in stock ⭐ Janet Delaney – Public Matters

MACK 2018
@janet_delaney @mack_books

First edition

Capturing the spirit of protest and parade, Public Matters brings together photographs made by Janet Delaney in Reagan-era San Francisco. At this turbulent time in the mid eighties, Delaney was living in the primarily Latino neighbourhood of the Mission District. She would spend the weekends photographing public gatherings, from the annual Cinco de Mayo parade, to the Peace, Jobs and Justice marches, which rallied against the U.S. invasion of Nicaragua. If political governance was regressing, the West Coast city was a place where, as Delaney remembers, ‘progressive ideas would always be upheld.’ Celebrating multiculturalism and collective struggles for social justice, Public Matters surfaces at a juncture when the message of building bridges is needed now more than ever

"When I first arrived in Tokyo in April, 1976 the plan was to spend a few days and then continue on to SE Asia. I decided to stow my luggage at the airport that first night so I could just wander around. I had no idea where I was going to stay. I took the monorail from Haneda airport into the city and then rode the circle of the Yamanote line around Tokyo. When I arrived at Shinjuku I got off the train. It seemed the brightest, noisiest and most crowded part of town. I spent the night wandering around Shinjuku and nearby neighborhoods and by morning I knew I wanted to stay. It’s perhaps worth pointing out that in 1976 there was nothing to prepare a first-time visitor for Tokyo. “BladeRunner-esque” had yet to enter the language. At the time the notion that the future had arrived, and was alive and well in an Asian city, was simply not known. And so, to stumble across it was thrilling and eye-opening.“

Greg Girard from the Q&A with Brad Feuerhelm, included in the book

🔥BOOK OF THE WEEK🔥
Mimi Plumb’s The Golden City

“Mimi Plumb used to live on the edges of the city where the rents were cheap. Nearby, on the summit of the hill, were folded layers of radiolarian chert, the fossilized remains of microscopic creatures called radiolaria. A large crevice in the hillside was a reminder of the ever-present threat of an earthquake.

To Plumb the magical clanging of the San Francisco cable cars was a world away, and the idealism of the 1960s seemed long gone. The Golden City of San Francisco, fraying at its edges, showed the growing chasm between the rich and poor. “

🔥10 YRS dienacht-night celebration & pop-up exhibition🔥

Bildband is thrilled to host dienacht Publishing on April 7 for a book presentation and signing from 19:00-21:00. Artist, Dinaya Waeyaert will present her book "Come Closer" and have an artist talk at 19:30. The evening will include a pop-up exhibition by dienacht artists! Prints, books and special editions will be available for purchase.

"Come Closer is about my love for a woman, her name is Paola. We fell in love four years ago. Ever since, I have felt the urge to photograph her every day. As part of this series you will find mostly colour and black-and-white 35mm pictures accompanied by polaroids, notes and contact sheets, but it also features videos. The work feels like an intimate conversation between her and me. I am an observer trying to grasp every playful moment, every moment of connection." - Dinaya Waeyaert

🔥BOOK OF THE WEEK🔥
Justine Kurland, SCUMB Manifesto

“Inspired by Valerie Solanas’ iconoclastic feminist tract SCUM (Society for Cutting Up Men) Manifesto, SCUMB Manifesto introduces us to photographer Justine Kurland’s own uncompromising initiative: the Society for Cutting Up Men’s Books. This volume presents a collection of collages Kurland created by cutting up and reconfiguring photobooks by male artists, as she went through the process of purging her own library of roughly 150 books by straight white men that have monopolized the photographic canon. The nature of collage — heterogeneous, pulled apart, shape shifting, disrupted, cyborg, fantasy — has long made it a feminist strategy in life and in art.”

🔥 Rare edition 🔥

Teju Cole - Fernweh

The picturesque vistas and apparent stability of Switzerland have made it an elusive subject for contemporary photography. Over a five-year period (2014 – 2019), Cole found a distinctly new way to look at a country that has been the quintessence of tourist experience for almost two centuries. Fernweh muses on the German word for a longing to be elsewhere. Cole’s meditative and scrupulously composed work, made with colour film, is evocative of the hidden history of the Alpine nation as well as of its highly curated terrain. Returning to Switzerland year after year, Cole shares the patience and mild palette of luminaries of contemporary European photography — but the constructivist tension in these images is all his own. With photographs shot in every corner of the country — from Vaud to Graubünden to Lugano — Fernweh creates a vision of Switzerland that, though largely devoid of human presence, is rich in human traces; none more so than Cole’s own distinct way of seeing.

🇺🇦Alexander Chekmenev - Lilies🇺🇦

In 1999, in the psychiatric clinics of the town of Ovruch in Ukraine, Alexander Chekmenev shoots “Lilies” – the series of gripping black and white portraits. The project that has become a classic of Ukrainian photography, sets an important example of the humanistic approach to people who don’t fit in the settled boundaries of ‘normality’.

🔥LAST COPIES🔥

Tim Carpenter’s Christmas Day, Bucks Pond Road

In Christmas Day, Bucks Pond Road, his second book with The Ice Plant, Brooklyn-based photographer Tim Carpenter (born 1968) revisits the Central Illinois topography of his first monograph, Local Objects, with a sequence of 56 black-and-white medium-format photographs, all made on a single winter morning. In Local Objects he meandered this semi-rural Midwestern landscape through changing seasons in an abstract sequence, but here Carpenter follows a straightforward path, literally taking the viewer on a two-hour walk from point A to point B. Nothing much happens along this brief narrative arc—there are fallow fields, standing water, dormant trees, the occasional tire track on worn pavement—yet Carpenter explores the stillness of this outdoor space with a palpable, almost erotic anticipation, revealing intimate subtleties as the journey unfolds. Made with an intensity of attention and a lightness of touch, the photographs in Christmas Day, Bucks Pond Road are less about the confines of this specific time and place than about a poetic strategy for narrowing the distance between human desire and the factual content of the everyday world.
