We all have so much to look forward to after the theaters will be finally open!

One of these things is the new work of Sonja Jokiniemi "Öh" premiering at Liikkeellä marraskuussa / Moving in November this year between 5. and 15. of November.

Sonja is creating a multisensorial textile environment. She is preparing handmade rugs, as well as using knotting and sewing techniques to bind together a sensorial logic as a choreographic proposition. We are very excited!

Michiel Vandevelde: ›Ends of Worlds‹ (video work)

Take a look at the video that Michiel Vandelvelde has made for #PACTconnected, in which he revisits the epilogue of his work Ends of Worlds.

Year 2300. The date marks year zero for a species of reproduced homo sapiens informed by the algorithmic memories and patterns of the past. What are the codes and signs from the past that infiltrate the future? What remnants of past ideologies do they reflect?

Very interesting 10 minute insight into the creation that would have been presented at PACT Zollverein this May!

Your Sunday read!
'Living in Regressive Times' the text Michiel Vandevelde wrote for the reader „A Pleasant Apocalypse: Notes from the Grand Hotel Abyss“ by steirischer herbst is now available online. In this essay Michiel Vandevelde comments on the embattled notion of progress—and how artists rebelled against its unjust distribution.

It's also worth buying the whole book with many different artists' texts, essay, visual materials:

GOOD NEWS! New dates have already been found for some of our postponed shows which count already to a total of 40 😓

We are happy to inform that "Domínio Público" by Elisabete Finger, Maikon K, Renata Carvalho and Wagner Schwartz that was going to be presented this week at Centre National de la Danse (CND) as part of Festival Panorama in Paris, was rescheduled for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd October 2020 ! 💙

In "Domínio Público", four Brazilian artists who were the subject of public attacks by conservative, and extreme right-wing groups in Brazil, come together in a collaborative project that takes an icon of art history as their departure point. In "Dominio Público" they propose a reflection on how a singular art work can be interpreted in different narratives, inciting the most diverse public reactions, and mirroring the facts and absurdities of our contemporary society. What happens when your life and work are no longer in your hands, when they are violently manipulated by forces bigger than you and you completely lose control of them?

Thank you Centre national de la danse - CN D for your commitment and support! We are looking forward to be there in October!!

STOCKHOLM!

This Wednesday and Thursday don't miss "Howl" by Sonja Jokiniemi at MDT !

More info & tickets here: http://bit.ly/3axJbVU

In her fifth work, after the group piece BLAB, Sonja Jokiniemi goes back to a solo. As always, a strong point is made in the interaction with objects on stage, inspired by her Eastern Finland roots: lichen, wood, clay, knife. Two big black and white drawings and some laced textiles hang from the ceiling. The audience is sitting around the performer.

In the previous works, Jokiniemi, developing a strong personal discourse around alternative languages and new materialism, was finding in those stage objects real play partners, encouraging the audience to consider their presence with the same intensity as human performers. In Howl, the constructive dialogue is for the first time failing: inability, frustration and fear seem to take the lead, allowing the performance artist to let progressively but fully go the civilized part of this human to object relationship, destroying the ideas of normality, civilization, canalized sexuality and constructed intelligence, leading the audience to a new pallet of sensitive, psychoanalytic and carnal questions about the ecosystem. Deeply moving, sexual, violent and sad, Howl is surely her most intimate work to date.

Florentina Holzinger: TANZ : 5, 6, 7 and 8th March at the Sophiensaele 💦

More info & tickets here: http://bit.ly/2wnb1p0

TANZ completes Florentina Holzinger's trilogy – Recovery and Apollon were the first two parts – about the body as a spectacle and its disciplining. A ballet class under the direction of Beatrice Schönherr, the first ballerina to dance "Le Sacre de Printemps" naked (John Neumeier’s Le Sacre, 1972), provides the framework for TANZ. The performers undergo rigorous training in “action ballet”, the so-called “sylphic studies”. In joint rituals, they learn to master their bodies and minds, and they acquire supernatural powers, such as flying. A quest for perfection in an ephemeral world, during which the gross is transformed into the sublime. In an operatic setting, brutal parodies of sensationalist images emerge, as seen in ballet, comedy, and pornography. The gaze regime finds reflection in the character of a porn producer who documents the performance. With a cast of women between the ages of twenty and eighty, all of whom have different backgrounds in dance, TANZ raises the question of the legacy of dance. How can the cult of beauty inherent in this tradition be reconciled?

🔥 ATTENTION 🔥
In some scenes, self-harming acts are portrayed, which could have a disturbing effect on some viewers. Please note that stroboscopic effects are used in this performance.

Tomorrow, 3rd March (and until the 8th) Michelle Moura will premiere her new solo 👅OVERTONGUE👅 at Alfaiataria in Curitiba, Brazil 🌴

At a time in which words seem to have lost value and it is difficult to distinguish the truth from lies, in her new work “Overtongue” Michelle Moura creates a delirious performance that is like a "chamber of echoes", an environment in which one can only encounter voices, ideas, and beliefs that coincide with their own. In “Overtongue” the body is permeated by the mechanical, the alienated and the grotesque. Sounds and movements are amplified by repetitions and dissociations, turning the familiar into the unknown. Overtongue is the noise of things. A promise of disintegrated statements or a cemetery of intentions.

OVERTONGUE is a co-production Something Great (Berlin - DE), Centre national de la danse - CN D (Paris - FR) and Kunstencentrum Vooruit (Ghent - BE) with the very kind residency support of STUK - House for Dance, Image & Sound (Leuven - DE) and fabrik Potsdam (Potsdam - DE).

Additional shows on the 12th and 13th March at Centro Cultural São Paulo - CCSP.

TOI, TOI, TOI Michelle & team!

This week a new work by Michiel Vandevelde will hit the world 💥 : Platform-K / Michiel Vandevelde | 'The Goldberg Variations'.

Where and when?
5, 6 and 7 March, Kunstencentrum Vooruit, Gent (BE)

In “The Goldberg Variations” along with Oskar Stalpaert (dancer of Platform-K, a Ghent based dance company for dancers with a disability), Audrey Merilius (ballet dancer), and Philippe Thuriot (accordionist), Michiel Vandevelde works with Bach’s music and Steven Paxton’s choreography. Three bodies, each with very different potentialities, delve into dance history and question the potential of dance today. How open, democratic and accessible is dance nowadays?
