In 2020, we are looking back on ten years of development and collaborations but we are focused even more urgently on the future. With our advent calender we want to give an insight into the history of the project - based on extracts of our anniversary catalog - which seeks the bridge between the utopian idea of the project and its actual implementation.

Operndorf Afrika has been a permanent partner of the EFFO project at the Robert Koch-Institute since 2018. The focus of the train-the-trainer program is the further training of medical staff in dealing with diseases caused by highly pathogenic agents, such as Ebola fever. In addition to didactic training elements, topics such as basic hygiene and educational work in the community also play an important role. In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, the EFFO project with the project partner Missionsärztliches Institut in Würzburg is supporting its local partners in Burkina Faso.

Why do we want to help Africa all the time if we can't help ourselves? What can be the goal of cooperation if it has to do without any aid ideology and sentimentality? These questions were the starting point of Christoph Schlingensief's last theater piece Via Intoleranza II - questions that still accompany us in our work.

Already in 2009, Christoph Schlingensief intensively dealt with the idea of the Opera Village. His model of a Festspielhaus was accordingly also seen for the first time as a film in the production „Mea Culpa - A ReadyMadeOper“.

„The place, the village, that we want to build is not there so that arias can be sung or symphony orchestras play here later. My idea of an Opera Village is always connected with the hope that, together with the commitment and money of many, we will create this organism that develops a life of its own, through us and above all through the people who are there.“ Christoph Schlingensief

Allgemeine Information
