This short poem by Dalia Maini is followed by a lengthy footnote in which she discusses with passion and fervour the impossibility of our identities. The societal pressures that pull us away from who we really are and the internal drives that beckon us back. As the title suggests, Maini’s writing style in this piece is verbose and erratic. We loved this unusual format and the structure of this submission which provides not only a piece of considered poetry but a free form, sprawling, stream of consciousness essay in the footnote.
Dalia Maini is a writer and curator based in Berlin. Her current project can be found here: @bitethesaurus, an unconventional curatorial project founded in Naples.
