Tomorrow is the last day of the show Scary Good @berlinskej_model

Today we introduce you to Monika Grabuschnigg, Mary-Audrey Ramirez & Eliška Konečná

About @grabuschnigg_monika curator Marianne Dobner wrote: Utopia and dystopia are close neighbors in Monika Grabuschnigg’s work. The historically fraught symbol of the Atropa belladonna —better known as deadly nightshade—runs like a thread through her new work group. Originally, the plant, which bears black cherry- like fruit, was associated with a feminine beauty ideal, as the sap had a pupil-dilating effect—an aesthetic kinship that is reflected in the plump, oversize form of the bouquets modeled from clay. In her works, Grabuschnigg plays with the ambivalent appearance of nature, which may generate both pleasure and unease in us humans.

About @maryaudreyramirez work wrote @quirin_brunnmeier As otherworldly and mysterious as the artifacts presented may seem, the feelings and associations they trigger are human. The artist skilfully circles subconscious fears, desires and fetishistic eroticism.

Thanks for joining us at the opening of In My Mold last night.

Come and visit us today and tomorrow from 12 pm – 6 pm to see the trio exhibition with Justin Chance, Mona Filleul and Monika Grabuschnigg at the gallery.

Mona Filleul’s bas-reliefs from beeswax and papers out of mulberry fibers refer to an ancient craft technique, that of Japanese papermaking, that the artist turns into her very own practice. The diptych Dinosaurus & Oranges Carrefour (2020) shows a man’s arm in a coat sleeve holding a shopping net filled with oranges, seen here as a vague simulacrum. Restrained in materiality and color, the vulnerable and downright uncomfortable immediacy of the imagery is all the more emphasized through the work’s plasticity, the skin- like organic materiality, and hyperfiguration, especially those partly painted with tempera and oil.

Under the title In My Mold the three person exhibition at Galerie Anton Janizewski, curated by Miriam Bettin, brings together new works by Justin Chance, Mona Filleul, and Monika Grabuschnigg. Their mainly sculptural practices based on the everyday are characterized by processes of molding and/or modifying/covering objects of daily use. Familiar yet alien things are combined in unexpected ways to create uncanny feelings. In this dialectical process, the works reveal the immanent political dimension of the personal.

Opening: Friday, 16.09.2022, 7 pm

Under the title In My Mold the three person exhibition brings together works by Justin Chance, Mona Filleul, and Monika Grabuschnigg. Their mainly sculptural practices based on the everyday are characterized by processes of molding and/or modifying/covering objects of daily use. Familiar and yet alien at the same time, things are combined in unexpected ways to create uncanny feelings.

The show circles around the thin line and the tipping point between celebration, intimacy, seduction, and the morbid, grotesque, and melancholic of the private realm.
The title does not only refer to the artistic practices but is also a description of a condition in which one cannot get out of one's own skin or, in the broader literal sense, is stuck in mold.

But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold

Niklas Maak über die „Die Kunst dieses Moments“ in der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung.

@hoholgahoh 💙🔥📰

Jonas Höschl is currently researching the continuity of Leni Riefenstahl's aesthetics in post-fascist Germany.

Riefenstahl did not only cover the N**i Olympics of 1936, but was also commissioned by the Sunday Times to photograph the second German Games in Munich in 1972. The Times printed photos from 1936 and 1972 one below the other on the cover of the 1972 edition, showing that there was no break in her aesthetic. In his show case, Höschl overlays a copy of the newspaper with a four-color glass print of the back page, on which an advertisement proclaims: "There's history all around us".

In her work "Demons" (2022), @antoniaalessiavirginia refers to the cult of German landscapes. In the diorama we encounter a re-staging of Caspar David Friedrich's romantic presentation of German kitsch landscapes, while in the video in the background Neuschwanstein Castle can be seen in front of a glowing forest and anti-vaccinationists declare their love for the German landscape with the slogan "Heimatschutz statt Mundschutz".

The work is on view at the gallery today and tomorrow between noon and 6 pm. Come by!

Is part of Ferdinand Dölbergs solo show "Bitte Widersetzen!".

opening tonight from 7 - 9 PM.

⚡️

“Steel conducts electricity. Neurons shoot through the brain. Lightning strikes. We are surrounded by chemical and physical marvels happening at all times within our bodies, but also around us in nature. Boundaries are constantly being crossed, explored, discarded as unnecessary, and yet then re-established. Everything is a cycle. And Golinska’s sculptures give some fine hints of how to position oneself within it, despite all the chaos.”

Nicholas Warburg ist richtig sauer is co-founder of the collective Frankfurter Hauptschule. His work adresses German history and art history with an air of ambivalence. Warburg links narratives of National Socialism with the philosophical notion of #Hauntology. The term depicts the phenomenon of feeling haunted by historical possibilities that did not come to pass. Within Nicholas Warburg's work the „Thousand Year Reich“ of the N**is appeares as such a "nostalgia for lost futures" (Mark Fisher).
