"Rebekka Benzenberg aims to capture the present, which becomes a relic of the past in the archiving process. The objects cast in epoxy resin thus seem like historical artefacts.
The same applies to the fur, which is both controversial for ethical reasons and antiquated as a garment. Despite its precarious manufacturing conditions, fur remains associated with prestige and prosperity. Detached from its elitist context, the artist works on the material by means of a radical decomposition and besmeared inscription – gestures of rebellion. Through this act of appropriation, the inscribed layers of meaning are recoded, but never completely overwritten."

„Rebekka Benzenberg will die Gegenwart festhalten, die im Archivierungsprozess zum Relikt der Vergangenheit wird. So wirken die in Epoxidharz gegossenen Objekte wie historische Artefakte. Der Pelz fungiert selbst als solches, ist er doch aus ethischen Gründen umstritten und als Kleidungsstück altmodisch geworden. Trotz seiner prekären Produktionsbedingungen wird er weiterhin mit Prestige und Wohlstand assoziiert. Aus diesem elitären Kontext enthoben, bearbeitet die Künstlerin das Material durch radikale Zerlegung und beschmierte Beschriftungen – Gesten der Rebellion. Durch diesen Akt der Aneignung werden die bestehenden Bedeutungsebenen rekodiert, jedoch nicht vollständig überschrieben.“

On a two-meter wide canvas it reads: “MICHAEL JORDAN/ MICHAEL JACKSON/ MICHAEL KREBBER”. The typeface as well is based on the horror genre. The three protagonists named were born around the same time. While Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson were the greatest stars in their disciplines of all time, Michael Krebber is a different kind of celebrity. He is considered an artists’ artist, an eternal insider tip. He studied painting in Karlsruhe, was assistant to Georg Baselitz and Martin Kippenberger and from 2002 to 2016 professor at the Städelschule. His formal gestures and conceptual tricks often exceed the understanding of art experts. In many cases it remains unclear, for example, whether his refusal to produce is due to a lack of ideas or a deliberate bluff. His dandyish approach finds a resounding echo in Warburg’s exhibition.

So manche künstlerische Fragestellung, Motive und Aspekte tauchen in der Kunst wie bei einzelnen Künstler*innen immer wieder auf. Manchmal ist das gewollt, ja direkt angestrebt, manchmal vielleicht auch ungewollt, unterschwellig, wie ein Muster oder eine Handschrift. Zu den Kennzeichen in den Werken, Aktionen und Ausstellungen des Künstlerinnenduos FORT gehören Aspekte wie Zwillingsmotive oder Zwischenräume, unscharfe Übergangssituationen oder schwebende Gleichwertigkeiten. 
Invitation to Love ist das erste Ausstellungprojekt, bei dem FORT als Kuratorinnenteam fungiert und von befreundeten und bekannten Künstler*innen eine subjektive Auswahl von Werken zusammenführt. Der Ausstellungstitel spielt auf eine Fernsehserie gleichen Namens an. Eine Seifenoper, die ihrerseits innerhalb der US-amerikanischen Fernsehserie Twin Peaks von David Lynch lief, die zu Beginn der 1990er Jahre Kultstatus erlangte. A show within a show, in der, ganz nach Vorliebe der Künstlerinnen, Zwillinge eine Hauptrolle spielen.

Jenny Berger Myhre and Manuela de Laborde investigate Mexico City through the lens of an intersubjective
history — creating a psycho-geographical map of Laborde’s home town through a game of uncompromised
association titled "Notas y notas y notas". Found objects such as slides, tapes and films, garnered from
the city‘s flea markets prompt her to revisit places, looking for the same sounds and forms as the gathered
objects. There is an abyss between what is sought and what is found, ghosts emanating from this juncture
evoke a way back to the intricate history of objects, memories and belonging.

The video is part of the exhibition "Splintered subjects along the margin“ on view at the gallery.

The gallery is open today till 6 pm and tomorrow from noon to 6 pm.

Splintered subjects along the margin

As the world is casting an eye over the front-lines of social injustice, Splintered subjects along the margin is an attempt to look into the contradictions, layers and intersections enmeshed in the self-awareness of those relegated to the margins of society. A cosmology of works gesture toward desire and bodies, power and devotion, narration and belonging, race and submission through four emerging video art approaches. The gathered planetary chorus braids a precarious web of unforeseen references and connections between geographically and politically heterogeneous perspectives. In an atonal song, each approach embarks on the abrasive materialisation of self-reflection in a mirror of global, yet highly personal conflict zones. How are domination and submission expressed in the shadow of the racialized figure? How does inflicted pain relate to unconscious knowledge? How do memory and self-identification converge before the prospect of change?

The works aim to challenge the schema under which we superficially categorise identities, highlighting overlooked aspects that splinter off any unified idea of the subject. Fragments flicker into visibility on and off the bodies they came from, simply through their encounters with each other. ‘I am my others‘, writes Akwaeke Emezi. In this spirit, each approach practices this speculative and dialectical thinking of the fragment, by processes of non adjoining identification with, and unifying disruption of their others. Or put differently: visual fragments break into a thought, which, although imperceptible, reveals something of the complex nature of subjectivity.

"There currently is the assumption that painting is reinventing itself. Usually it is phrased like this: the internet exists, and painting exists, therefore the latter has to adapt itself. Whether figurative or abstract, the edges have to be clear, it has to be colourful and clean because the paintings need to look pleasant on Instagram. Dölberg refuses this aestheticization. His paintings are too rich in detail anyway, since he uses substances such as chalk, epoxy resin, and he paints over monotypes. Those material conditions would be lost on a phone display.“ -Philipp Hindahl.

Georg Vierbuchens Objekte erzählen von Nostalgie und Sehnsucht, nach der vergangenen Kindheit oder einer Un-schuld, die es vielleicht nie gab, aber ohne deren dunklen Seiten zu vergessen. Seine neueren Objekte sind weniger genau in einer Zeit zu verorten, außer in der Gegenwart. Aber vielleicht macht sie gerade das zu den nostalgischen Objekten für die Zukunft.

Vierbuchen’s objects tell a story of nostalgia and longing, for a past childhood or an innocence, which perhaps never existed, but he doesn’t forget about its dark aspects. His recent objects are not linked to a certain time, except to the present. But precisely this makes them the nostalgic objects for the future.

The gallery is open on sundays until 6 pm.
