Times are changing. The Palazzo Italia that hosted our 4th Biennial is now closed or changed owner and orientation. PDN has closed. Some art galleries are also closing. This page is no longer be updated, although it will remain open remembering the good days in Berlin on the occasion of the 4th Biennial. However, we, at the Worldwide Photography Gala Awards, organizers of the Biennials, are swimming against the current like the salmons. We are opening a new Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/FotoNostrum/, and we invite all followers of this page to follow this new page. That FB belongs to our new physical gallery: FotoNostrum, Mediterranean House of Photography. Yes! We have opened a gorgeous ample space, of 830 sq meters of net exhibition space with 290 meters of lineal wall in the beautiful Barcelona. No more posts on this page, but new posts are awaiting you regarding incoming exhibitions. Right now, we're about to open the 14th Julia Margaret Cameron Award and the 14th Pollux Awards Exhibition, on March 4. If you're in Barcelona, you're cordially invited to join us on March 4 at 7 pm. And there's a great scoop: in July we will open, for the first time in Spain, the best of Helmut Newton in his Private Property collection. A portfolio of 45 original signed prints selected and curated by the Helmut Newton Foundation. We appreciate all our followers that have supported this page and hope you will be visiting our new page and our Mediterranean House of Photography in Barcelona.

STILLS OF THE BIENNALE (ALL EXHIBITED IMAGES).

Click in https://spaces.hightail.com/receive/hgQ4v and you will be able to download all stills in 8 smaller files of no more than 200 MB each approximately. The video of the entire Biennale (also a very large file of 5GB) will be split in several smaller files, in a few days from now.

HEUTE IS DER LETZTE TAG. TODAY IS THE LAST DAY. The Berlin Foto Biennale comes to an end, and today it will be opened from 12 to 19 welcoming the last visitors of this unique visual endeavor. Thousands of visitors have enjoyed both the images of the Biennale and those of our guest, Steve McCurry. We thank all visitors for making this Biennale a unique event during the European Month of Photography. Selected images of the Biennale will itinerate next year to Hanoi, and a special competition will be done to select photographers to go to Vietnam (all expenses paid) and make images of the Heritage places and people of Vietnam. Today is the last day but actually not the end of this visual fest... it continues in Vietnam next year, and we encourage you to keep tuned for the competition that we will launch shortly to select those who will be invited to picture Vietnam and exhibit the results of their work.

Next week stills and videos of all exhibited images of the Biennale will be available here for download.

252 PHOTOGRAPHERS AND THEIR GUESTS ATTENDED THE GALA DINNER OF THE BERLIN FOTO BIENNALE.
Saturday 8, the third day of the Biennale, started with a press conference of Steve McCurry, followed by a meeting of Steve with some exhibitors. Later, at the Melia Berlin Hotel we had the chance to experience a great networking event. Some people stayed until midnight... We're happy for having been able to gather such an awesome group of talents in a friendly and rewarding experience. We feel that we have fulfilled our main goal: to give an exhibition space in a beautiful venue and to facilitate a climate of friendship among photographers.

OPENING HOURS AND ENTRANCE TICKET

We're only 37 days away from the opening of the largest exhibition of the European Month of Photography in Berlin, and most probably one of the largest exhibitions ever done in Europe. With 446 photographers from 41 countries exhibiting 1230 artworks, and the presence of the Berlin Foto Biennale's special guest, Steve McCurry, this will be an awesome event in the photographic scene. The special section about the Holocaust and the Second Generation, the portfolios of the Young Emerging Talent Yusuke Suzuki of Aleppo and Lesbos, and the visual documents of Andrea Star Reese about the abuse of mental patients in Indonesia and the live of underground homeless people in New York, complement this fest of creativity and talent. The 24,000 square feet of exhibition space in the awesome Palazzo Italia (or Römisher Hof as it is called in Berlin) will be filled with different contemporary photographic approaches. Wile the clock is ticking waiting for the opening this image posted below gives an idea of what will be inside the Biennale.

A hard cover book of the Exhibition, including works of Steve McCurry, and all exhibiting artists, will be published by Kehrer Verlag.

The Berlin Foto Biennale will be open all days between October 6 and October 30 according to this timetable:

October 6: 11 - 6 pm
October 7 - 30:
Mo - Wed: 12 - 7pm
Thu: 12 - 9 pm
Fri - Sun: 12 - 7pm

There will be a closed Artists Reception on October 6 at 6.30 pm

The Gala Awards thanks Magnum Photos and Steve McCurry for making possible the exhibition of his 130-works Retrospective in the venue of the Berlin Foto Biennale. We're proud to have him as a Special Guest, and for exhibiting this set of images for the very first time in Berlin. Caption of the Image: Peshawar, Pakistan, 2002. Copyright Steve McCurry/Magnum Photos.
Every photograph is an allegory. As soon as we have grasped the contents of an image our minds start to envisage a life before and after this decisive moment. Portraiture is especially responsive to the imaginary narratives we may weave around a picture. Each face is unique; we have never seen it before and we will never see it again. It is this newness of a portrait that compels us to construct stories. Yet, in doing so we often reach for the familiar. This young child had fled the civil war in Afghanistan and was living in Pakistan when McCurry took this picture. The delicate emerald shawl, her rich blue eyes and serene gaze all evoke a deep sense of the religious.
