#exhibitionreminder - Anton Roland Laub’s photographic series 'Last Christmas‘ featured in the Gallery of the Guardini Foundation Berlin (DE) (14/09 - 22/11/2019) 📸⁣

If in Berlin sometime before 22 November, don’t miss the group exhibition 'Holy and cursed places (Heilige und verfluchte Orte)‘ at Gallery of the Guardini Foundation. Berlin based artist Anton Roland Laub, represented by Kehrer Galerie, is showcased here with his series 'Last Christmas‘ (since 2018) which questions the place Nicolae Ceausescus and his wife Elena were executed on Christmas Day 1989 🇷🇴⁣

Prior to this verdict at a military base, a military court had hastily been put together, accusing the Ceausescus of genoicide and impairment of the national economy. The trial can be deemed controversial. It lasted only 55 minutes, the verdict 1 minute 44 seconds and the execution 10 minutes. The decree setting up the tribunal was signed on December 27th, by which time the couple had already been dead for two days...⁣

The events of those violent days remain shrouded in mystery and intrigue, leaving the question: was it a people’s uprising or a staged coup d’état? Corruption in Romania results not only from the ‘stolen Revolution’, but also from the wall of silence that has been blocking justice for 30 years 🤐⁣

The group exhibition 'Holy and cursed places‘ combines artistic views on societal, religious and mythical places, excluded from everyday life and overlain by symbolic or historic meaning, aiding to constitute cultural and personal identity. Transformational processes and connections between such places and the people who visit them are therefore also the background of the other artists participating in this group show.⁣
To learn more about Anton Roland Laub’s artistic approach and the series itself, please go to https://www.antonlaub.de/ or listen in on the conversation between the artists Ola Kolehmainen and Laub with the interviewer Barbara Wiegand and the curator Frizzi Krella (from minute 19:19, in German): https://mediandr-a.akamaihd.net/download/podcasts/podcast3014/AU-20190920-1638-4900.mp3?fbclid=IwAR3hBqfy_A5P4O6-TT8Zv3OUvxVR6hb7igt7j-TtkpCkUYxOv6pzqkn0whE

Potsdamer Str. 100 to become publications showroom

The premises of Kehrer Gallery Berlin are about to be renovated and are thus temporarily closed. The location will reopen soon, featuring a showroom for extraordinary books – the publications of Kehrer Verlag will thus continue to be presented at Potsdamer Str. 100 in the future!

While there will be no more temporary exhibitions for the time being, the site will remain a forum for photography, the arts, and culture. We look forward to continuing our popular series of Kehrer Book Talks, as well as to hosting other events focusing on books and art. You are invited to drop in during regular opening hours to enjoy a good cup of espresso while browsing through a broad range of our publications.

Until new premises are found, Kehrer Gallery will continue operating as a pop-up gallery in changing venues, as well as online. One of the upcoming opportunities to meet again will be in France: Come and visit the Kehrer pop-up Gallery at MRO Foundation during the opening week of the Rencontres d’Arles, July 1-7, 2019!

We look forward to welcoming you soon at the newly renovated space at Potsdamer Str. 100 in Berlin and will keep you posted via our newsletter and social media.

All inquiries regarding the artists represented by Kehrer Gallery should continue to be directed to [email protected]. Until the reopening, we can be reached by phone at +49 (0) 6221 / 64920-0.

// LAST CHANCE

Ruinous buildings hidden behind printed canvases.
Gregor Sailer took the myth of The Potemkin Village as a starting point for this body of work.

In Ufa, Putin invited the emerging countries Brazil, China, Russia, India and South Africa for a meeting. In the course of this visit, numerous houses were covered with prints of representative facades in order to hide the shabby conditions and to shed better light on the image of the city.

The exhibition »The Potemkin Village« by Gregor Sailer is only running until today, 7pm, here at Kehrer Galerie, Berlin.
