The Xposed International Queer Film Festival

The Xposed International Queer Film Festival The 15th XPOSED International Queer Film Festival Berlin ....will be held at some point in the future... It’s about eXposure and eXposing. It’s about fun, Berlin and the rest of the Queer World!
(9)

The XPOSED international queer short film festival Berlin was created to screen award winning Australian Queer short films to an international audience, however as the festival grew so did it's outlook, not only did we want to create International exposure for Australian Queer Film, but also to Queer Films from other regions as well. The best way to shine a light on Queer life in another land is to mark it with a giant X and open peoples eyes to it, therefore, the festival grew into it’s new focus. The festival sets its self apart from the rest of them by not just showing the latest and newest queer films around, but by putting together a thoroughly researched and developed program on queer films from specific regions that show how queer life has developed and grown in these lands. The festival does not wish to limit itself to only the new films going around the festival circuit, but by also finding film treasures that may have gotten lost years ago or that are just to classic not to show again.

Mission: To present queer stories from afar in Berlin during Pride Week.

“We appreciate the works that were pitched today and we actually want to see them all realized. We thank all the filmmakers for pitching their ideas. We are honored to have read your scripts. But of course, among all of them we had to choose one. We felt, that in these times we are living in right now we need strong connections and friendships that help us ‘carry on a little bit longer’. In the project Sonic Reverbs by Sarnt Utamachote we see a clear vision of adressing mental health, friendship and finding ways to listen and be there for each other. We believe that the film will be a unique combination of music, documentary and cinematic sensibility. We are happy to present the award to this promising project and hope that it helps in its realization. We congratulate the winner Sarnt!”

We are really looking forward to these wonderful smart people enganging in conversation with each other!

Struggles and strategies: Queer (Short) Film Production in Germany
Panel discussion, September, 19th 2020
4pm streaming live on our Facebook channel

Queer characters and stories seem to enjoy ever increasing ‘visibility’ and ‘representation’ in film, TV, and other media. But do we get to see the complex characters and stories we long for, and if so, where? Who funds them? What is taught at film schools? And how to avoid the pitfalls of tokenism and appropriation that may await marginalized storytelling and storytellers in their fight for emancipation? What needs to change – and how can we all be a part of it?

Filmmakers Pol Merchan, Liz Rosenfeld, Jasco Viefhues and Zara Zandieh will share their perspectives on queer filmmaking, funding structures, and film schools. The discussion is moderated by Dr. Skadi Loist.

We are so happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with the lovely team from Soura Film Festival
Very looking forward to their festival and to screening XPOSED LOVE LETTERS, a collection of shorts from past and future editions of XPOSED at Oyoun on the 4th of October!

After months of hard work, we’re very excited to finally announce the full program of our 2nd Edition, taking place from October 1st till October 4th at Oyoun.

This year, we are reflecting on the true meaning of pride and what it means for us as a Queer Film Festival which focuses on the Middle East & North African region, and the importance of normalizing diversity and queer inclusion in cinema.

Our selection this year includes quite an array of feature and short films with a fresh and modern look on queerness in the region, ranging from pressing issues to long-standing traditions.

A special section [XPOSED Love letters] in collaboration with The Xposed International Queer Film Festival is also part of our program.

Moreover, part of film and queer culture is embracing tradition and remembering our history in order to move forward in the right direction, so we’re proud to add a Retrospective section this year which includes some understated classics.

In addition to films from Lebanon, Tunisia, Jordan, Iran, Morocco, Israel, Egypt, Sudan, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan, we are happy to include efforts by Turkish filmmakers this edition, given Turkish cinema’s pivotal contribution to the film industry.

Visit our website to check out our 2020 program and grab your tickets before they sell out!

Very excited to finally be announcing a screening this year!

Life has changed, but the BEAT GOES ON. And so does the struggle for embodied liberation. XPOSED presents seven queer short films circulating around queer antiracist resistance and the search for physical contact, like flowers in the wind.

Soura Film Festival

After months of hard work and intensive preparations, we are proud to finally announce to you that our second edition is happening and it’s taking place from October 1st till October 4th!

There might be a month for it, but pride is something we celebrate all year long. And although 2020 hasn’t been good to everyone so far, it has pushed us to reflect even more on the actual meaning of ‘pride’. In a world where some people are still being murdered because of their identity, ‘pride’ was never intented to be a party. ‘Pride’ started with a riot, and it lives on as a fight until we all get the rights we deserve. What we’re celebrating, however, is the power of diversity, and all the good things that can come from it. Diversity makes room for communication, which strengthens bonds and therefore normalizes difference and inclusion, and in the bigger scheme of things, acceptance. And this is what we choose to celebrate this year with our second edition of Soura Film Fest.

We would like to thank @oyounberlin for being our lovely host this year, and we can’t wait to share our program soon with you, so that’s something we all look forward to. Stay strong, stay queer, and let’s keep raising our voices!

About 1 — FOMO

Every year we are graced with the pleasure of hosting students from University of Hildesheim who take an excursion to our festival and watch as many of the programs as possible. This fruitful exchange over the years could sadly not happen this year due to Corona cancelling XPOSED, but what did happen as a result is truly beyond inspiring!
This year, the students got together to create the Festival of movies Online! This is so exciting to see this project come to fruition and we want to congratulate all involved!

Dearest XPOSED Family,

On what would have been the Opening Night of our festival, we would like to make an announcement (as if we were on stage...): The 15th edition of the XPOSED International Queer Film Festival Berlin will be moved to May 2021! We’re happy to continue working on a fabulous film program and can’t wait to see you all again.

To stay true to the festival’s dedication for the promotion of queer film and filmmakers, the 6th Queer Short Film Fund will nonetheless be held this year!
On September 19th, 2020, we hope to come together at aquarium and hear five filmmakers pitch their projects. For the first time, the Queer Short Film Fund will thus take place separately from the festival - and submissions are now open to residents not only in Berlin but from all over Germany.

Today, we’re happy to announce the Call for Entries – and excited to receive your submissions! The deadline is August 28th; more information can be found here: http://www.xposedfilmfestival.com/the-queer-short-film-fund/

And now it’s time for some champagne!

Yours excitedly,
Bartholomew Sammut, Merle Groneweg, and the entire XPOSED Team 🌹🖤
