corpses have been extremely well preserved, they silently carry information about their past lives. Using reconstruction techniques she extracts information about their identities, personal biographies and their culture.”

Her research was included in “The invention of trousers and its likely affiliation with horseback riding and mobility: A case study of late 2nd millennium BC finds from Turfan in eastern Central Asia”, which was published in Quaternary International (2014).

Blank Canvas - New Exhibiton From Jun 25, 2015 - Aug 25, 2015

My father did not [...] buy us coloring books because “you will condition them to draw within someone else’s lines.” Instead, we only got blank paper. Blank canvas - to craft our own work, our own ideas.

FELLINI Gallery proudly presents “BLANK CANVAS,” a group exhibition feauturing acclaimed international artists Jose Gonzalo Medellin Herrera, Lena Kami, Desi Civera, Mark Ashton Vey, Yohei Iketani, Silvia Paci and Shingo Ishida. In a blank material, artists face both its physicality as well as the specifc clichés that it embodies: from stock gestures to routine ways of seeing. Reaching beyond its rawness, and beyond our automatic responses to it, an artistic vision must stage an encounter torn between presence and abstraction.

“BLANK CANVAS” assembles a spectrum of inquiries. Jose Gonzalo Medellin Herrera casts fantasy onto the human form through contours enmeshed in wire and shadow. Mark Ashton Vey depicts idyllic wanderings through imaginary landscapes. Lena Kami employs color as an aspect of 3-dimensional space. The portraits of Desi Civera touch on the proximity between familiarity and estrangement. Yohei Iketani ties together specifc occasions with feeting memories, while Silvia Paci and Shingo Ishida embrace portraiture as both documentation and fctional story-stelling.

Concept : Since the fall of the wall in 1989 Berlin has experienced a creative revolution, providing a liberal platform for artists to experiment fearlessly.
Since then it has become one of the central cities of the world for contemporary music, art and fashion industries meanwhile maintaining the presence of old culture and history.
Berlin is growing fast, filled with unpredictable energy of the creative minds both local and foreign, attracting people from different countries and hosting their artistic spirits.
With this group show we want to draw a map to get lost here in Berlin, to welcome chaos and order, to represent the polarities and similarities of the creative people from all around the world today.
