NODOUS is a one night event at /rosa featuring an exhibition of works from the NFT platform Folia and a net art archive presentation by panke.gallery and Zentrum für Netzkunst.

Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse 35, 10178 Berlin
Curated by https://jpg.space

Drawing on our ecosystem of collaborators, the curatorial ethos for this show is one of interconnection as new media creates new modalities for artists, curators, collectors, and conference-goers to work, play, and tinker together. The exhibition reflects – and critically engages with – the reconfigured space of possibility that emerging technologies are bringing to bear on the art world and beyond. With a nod to the "nodous", it highlights the value of novel curatorial formats, rooted in artworks from across physical and digital realms.

Join us for the evening to celebrate these networked nodal protuberances while enjoying drinks, friends, and each others' de-virtualized presence.

The artists involved are: Petra Cortright + James Whipple, Dotcom Seance (Simon Denny, Guile Twardowski, and Cosmographia), Folia (Sam Hart, Billy Rennekamp, Everett Williams, Dan Denorch), Harm van den Dorpel, Joan Heemskerk, Oliver Laric, Hannah Rose Stewart, and net art pieces restored by panke.gallery and Zentrum fur Netzkunst alongside documentary material from the initiatives' archives.

We cordially invite you to THE CRYSTAL HEAVEN LOUNGE // Das Fundament
https://fundament.dos.fail/index-en

May 25–28, 2022 at Panke Club + Panke.gallery, Berlin (Wedding) as part of the Performing Arts Festival Berlin 2022

The performances will be accompanied by a workshop. Tickets are available here: https://tix.dos.fail

Role-playing meets immersive theater – As part of the Performing Arts Festival Berlin 2022 [https://performingarts-festival.de/en/program/crystal-heaven-lounge-fundament], Panke Club & Panke.gallery will become the venue of a playable Live-Simulation [https://fundament.dos.fail/index-en#faq] from May 25-28, 2022 [https://fundament.dos.fail/index-en#ticket]. The players will slip into roles and have the ability to explore the world of the secret CRYSTAL HEAVEN LOUNGE and the FUNDAMENT that is hidden underneath. Whether it be nightlife or day-to-day activities, the goal is to discover how others live their freedom and what it means for oneself to be free.

denialofservice.fail | THE CRYSTAL HEAVEN LOUNGE // Das Fundament

In the near future, biometric mass surveillance has become a reality. Every step you take is recorded on your profile. Even the darkest corners have eyes and data encryption has long been prohibited for private individuals. But there is an old factory building in Berlin-Wedding, now the headquarters of RAW DIAMOND GRINDERY, a recruitment company for future leaders, behind the façade of which you will find the CRYSTAL HEAVEN LOUNGE. This courtyard of wonders is your sanctuary. Here all your dreams come true. However, you can only achieve complete freedom and detachment from the system by moving into the FUNDAMENT, the secret living space under the roof of the CRYSTAL HEAVEN LOUNGE. In the FUNDAMENT, the residents make contact with the outside world via cam shows and share their ideas of freedom with like-minded people.

THE CRYSTAL HEAVEN LOUNGE // Das Fundament is a playable live simulation in real life [IRL] and on the World Wide Web. In the context of the Performing Arts Festival Berlin 2022, Panke Club & Panke.gallery will become the creative secret club and living space of the dropouts of this not-too-distant future. The actors of DOS.FAIL offer the possibility to investigate the meaning and forms of freedom which can be explored in several different ways. One can become a resident of the FUNDAMENT for 3 hours a day. Twice a day there are 1-hour cam shows with online guests. In the evening there is the option to dive into the exciting nightlife of the CRYSTAL HEAVEN LOUNGE for 2 hours.

The most important asset in this world is your data. What's the point of security and unlimited consumerism if you can't move freely or get socially excised when you try to stay true to yourself? How should or can you develop yourself in such a society?

The players create their own character with the help of our character generator. In this role, they interact independently with other players and influence the world of the game. In the process, participants gain insight into the lives of the inhabitants, learn what it means for them to be free and why they became dropouts. Perhaps the players would even like to accompany them to a cam show and exchange ideas with online participants. At night, guests get to experience an ecstatic stage show, see others live out their freedom, and find out for themselves what it means to be free.

For THE CRYSTAL HEAVEN LOUNGE // Das Fundament, a revival of THE CRYSTAL HEAVEN LOUNGE from 2019, which ran as part of 48-H Neukölln, different expertise, coming from the fields of theater, participatory art, cultural management, creative coding, live role play, set design, lighting, acting, dance, body performance, and game design, come together.

THE CRYSTAL HEAVEN LOUNGE // Das Fundament uses the new platform NEXUS [https://dos.fail/2021-nexus], which DOS.FAIL opened in the summer of 2021 and has since provided a safer base for immersive art, both for our work as well as other group's projects.

The realization of the revival of THE CRYSTAL HEAVEN LOUNGE // Das Fundament is supported by Panke e.V., panke.gallery, Verstehbahnhof, as well as Theaterhaus Mitte Berlin. Thursday, 28 April 2022 at 7 pm
Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 35, 10178 Berlin
https://www.panke.gallery/rosa

We are very happy to have artist Mario Santamaría give a talk at /rosa on 28 April at 7 pm. Mario Santamaría's practice engages with narratives told about technologies and the manifestations of networks that are often claimed to be disembodied and ephemeral.

His 2019 work Cloudplexity - a series of drawings made to represent the Internet extracted from the U.S. Patent database - has just recently been on display at C/O in Berlin. At /rosa Santamaria will talk about his practice and introduce us to some of his new and lesser known works.

Come join us for the talk and drinks on Thursday, 28 April, 7 pm at /rosa, Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 35, 10178 Berlin. Please wear an FFP2 mask inside.

/rosa residency: open call #1

Artists and scholars of all disciplines who deal with net art and culture are invited to explore web-based practices as well as new forms of art criticism and research. The selected groups and/or individuals will be rewarded with a six weeks residency at /rosa in Berlin Mitte. The residency program originated in 2022 to support artists, scholars, and writers with a work and exhibition space in Berlin.
For each call, the curatorial team selects two individuals and/or groups who may adopt the space for their research.

➠ Who can apply?

Artists, scholars, and students of all disciplines may apply. There is no discrimination of ethnicity, gender, age or abilities. Nevertheless, it is important to point out that the space has stairs at the entrance, which can be a barrier for many. We expect that the selected individual artists and/or groups and collectives are present in Berlin for the time of the residency. Projects should be carried out in formats that consider accessibility for users, who may range in age, race, gender, economic class, and ability.

➠ What we offer?

Participants are rewarded with a work and exhibition space in Berlin Mitte, with the possibility of hosting events, workshops, and shows. The space has an infrastructure with kitchen, bathroom, heating, work desk, and wi-fi. We also provide an archive and library on net art and net culture, and the possibility to negotiate with partners about the free use of electronic equipment such as monitors and projectors.

➠ Application format:

Submit your research proposal via email to: [email protected], in the form of:
– a headline
– a concept / motivation text in German or English (max. 1,500 characters with spaces)
– a short bio in German or English (max. 1000 characters with spaces)
– a portfolio PDF (images, text, links, etc.)

➠ Timeline Submission:

Submission period: now – April 27, 2022
Submissions analysis: April 2022 (3 days)
Residency: early May – June 2022

➠ Who we are?

/rosa is a project space at Rosa-Luxemburg Platz in Berlin Mitte. It is jointly run by Zentrum für Netzkunst Berlin (ZfN) and panke.gallery and focuses on researching and exhibiting net art and net culture. /rosa "Cleaning My Desktop" by Molly Soda opening: Thursday, 10 March 2022, 6–10 pm Dear friends, supporters, and enthusiasts of net art, we are happy to announce the next installation in our project space /rosa on Rosa-Luxemburg Platz in Berlin! In our series of single artwork installation, we will show the work “Cleaning my Desktop” (2018) by the New York-based artist Molly Soda. In Cleaning My Desktop, Molly Soda blends her body onto her computer desktop. The screen overflows with files and images that are piled up in layers covering the whole background. While the files are being organized and sorted into labeled folders, the figure of the artist treats the desktop as a physical space. Molly Soda was born in 1989 in San Juan, Puerto Rico and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She received her B.F.A in Photography and Imaging from Tisch School of Arts, New York University in 2011. She uses different social media to produce and host her work, allowing it to interact with the platforms themselves. She is interested in Internet archival practices, often using her own image and figure as an online character. 📲 https://mollysoda.exposed Come join us for the opening on Thursday, 10th of March from 6 to 10 PM at /rosa, Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 35, 10178 Berlin. — please note: 2G+ regulations (only vaccinated and/or recovered plus tested or boostered) apply for a visit to the event.
