bi’bak (Türkisch: Schau mal) ist ein Projektraum mit Sitz in Berlin, mit einem Fokus auf transnationale Narrative, Migration, globale Mobilität und ihre ästhetischen Dimensionen. Das interdisziplinäre Programm von bi’bak bewegt sich an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Wissenschaft und Gemeinschaft und umfasst Filmvorführungen und Ausstellungen, Workshops sowie musikalische und kulinarische Exkursionen.

Our new series, CONTESTING AUTHORITARIANISM | Perspectives from the South begins this Thursday 28th April with Jorge Sanjinés’ El Coraje del Pueblo / The Courage of the People (Italy/Bolivia 1971)

The Courage of the People reenacts the 1967 San Juan massacre in #Bolivia, taking us on a journey through the #indigenous labor movement and the political mobilization of women and their testimonial practices. The main goal of Cine Geração involves sharing and humanizing #Angolan and #African stories and integrating the #community with the help of cinema. Cine Geração is a space where people learn from each other's stories, raising questions about the current state of cinema in Angola and the African continent.

Para Lá dos Meus Passos / Beyond My Steps by Kamy Lara selected by Luanda-based project Cine Geração documents the creation of the 2017 season show of the Contemporary Dance Company of #Angola. Five dancers explore the concepts of #tradition, #culture, #memory, and #identity, whilst questioning the transformation of these themes in their own lives.

bi’bak (Turkish: have a look) is a project space based in Berlin, with a focus on transnational narratives, migration, global mobility and their aesthetic dimensions. bi’bak’s programme examines diverse disciplines in art, academics, and community development, including film screenings, exhibitions, workshops as well as music events and culinary excursions. bi'bak is a non-profit organization founded in 2014 by the artists and curators Malve Lippmann and Can Sungu. The curated film programme, bi'bakino, as well as the audio programme bi'bakaudio aims to show transnational, postcolonial and postmigrant perspectives. Experts invited from the fields of art, film and academics will enable a more differentiated, explicitly non-European view of society and cultural history. bi'baxchange offers a platform for cultural actors and projects, initiating cross-border collaborations. bi'bakwerk works with innovative concepts for art education, which aim for an equal participation and the exchange of ideas, knowledge and creativity. bi'bak's research-based exhibitions focus on widely neglected narratives and perspectives that are crucial for a comprehensive understanding of socio-political and socio-economic contexts worldwide. bi'bak was awarded by the Berlin Senate for Culture and Europe for its project space in 2017.

Have you had a chance to immerse yourself in My Burden is my Soulmate by Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu, the artwork currently illuminating the SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA façade? On view every evening from 20:00 until 24th April, Darıcıoğlu's multi-channel installation is an exploration of q***r vulnerability, strength and care through the marginalized body. Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu’s practice ranges from performance art to video, installation to public interventions. They were the 2020 fellow of the Berlin – Istanbul residency program held by nGbK Berlin, ZK/U and Depo Istanbul.

Cinema Akil is an independent cinema platform that brings quality films from across the world to the audiences in the UAE. Launched in 2014 as a nomadic cinema, it has held over 60 pop-up cinemas attracting over 65,000 attendees in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. In September 2018, Cinema Akil opened its first permanent location in Al Quoz, Dubai, making it the GCC’s first arthouse cinema. Starting tomorrow (07.04) until 24.04.2022 from 20:00 to 00:00 every evening the SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA façade will come to life with MY BURDEN IS MY SOULMATE, an installation by artist Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu. Based on a research of resistant and tender images of the marginalized body, MY BURDEN IS MY SOULMATE delves into physical and emotional limits, boundaries and the potential of the human body throughout the lines of q***r vulnerability, strength and care. Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu mostly focuses on q***r vulnerability, chronopolitics and necropolitics in their practice, ranging from performance art to video, installation, and public interventions.
