The Schinkel Pavillon presents a second volume of the exhibition dedicated to HR Giger, this time entering a dialogue with the work of an artist who inspired him throughout his
lifetime: the subversive German Surrealist Hans Bellmer. Their provocative aesthetics, depicting at times explicit sexual acts and repulsive creatures, was for both a form of political resistance and rebellion. The exhibition space turns into a forbidden cabinet of nightmares and taboos which seduce the curious viewer with their alluring poetics

The figure of the doll in Hans Bellmer’s œvre marks, at once, a schism in between the artist and his father and the artist and 'the system of the father'. Out of protest Bellmer abandoned his established career as a commercial artist in 1933. At the same time he engaged in increasingly obsessive relationships with the dolls he had begun to produce. "The source of my images is scandalous" said Bellmer, "because for me the world is a scandal."

Vol. 4 of Human Fly takes us back to a vibrant evening in October 2021 at Café Keese – one of Berlin’s last traditional dance halls. Pianist and composer Hania Rani and cellist and composer Dobrawa Czocher, both at home in the context of classical music, presented their new album Inner Symphonies (Deutsche Grammophon).
Hania Rani and Dobrawa Czocher have a long-standing personal relationship that first resulted in a musical collaboration in 2015. In their new album they combine their classical musical approaches with an ever-curious interest in other forms of music and art, without restricting themselves to genres. The theme of connectedness, both personal and musical, runs like a red thread through their compositions.

With Human Fly, artists Joseph Kadow and Malina Heinemann create an artistic translation of the DISAPPEARING BERLIN 2021 program. Using the immediate aesthetics of phone cameras they capture the emerging synergies between artistic performances, space and architecture as well as the experiences of the audience.
Hans Bellmer (1902-1975) was one of the most uncompromising artists of the twentieth century. An associate of the Dadaists and Surrealists, throughout his work he pursued a profoundly personal, eroticized vision that defies any simplistic categorization.

Hans Bellmer understood the body as an erotic landscape probing the limits of sexuality, identity, and social order. His monstrously erotic Doll (Die Puppe, 1934), a fragmentary and lustful sculpture, was his response to the N**i ideal, a neoclassical “Aryan” body. The erotically charged sculpture Machine-Gunneress in a State of Grace (1937) is composed of parts of Bellmer's Doll.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
