"The artist book 'SEL2020HEL Diary' chronicles the year 2020. Documenting the making of a yearlong series of date paintings in which the daily air quality readings of Helsinki and Seoul translate into colour, the diary mixes personal events with global, unfolding as a one-year time-scape.

A year ago, as we were starting the working process, we knew that the project would demand full dedication of the entire year, entailing near complete social isolation. What we did not know was that a global pandemic would force pretty much the entire world into similar conditions. In an odd and surprising way, SEL2020HEL Diary became a documentation of a pandemic – seen through air quality.

“The book and the notion of the body are decoded as an installation, commenting on gender, notions of fitness, health and care. …… The materials and surfaces folding out from the book into the space make way for a meta experience and mindful exercise: though staying fit and productive is an ambivalent chore, solidarity is a bittersweet treat.”

Kyoungtae Kim applies a ‘Serial Compositions’ technique to display a fresh visual perception through the eye of a camera. ‘Serial Compositions’ makes it difficult for the viewer to know what the actual image or form of an object is, because of the extreme close-up photos of A4 book-size white leaflets.

You can see Kyoungtae Kim's work at the current group show at einBuch.haus, which runs through 19. Dec. 2021.

Our first ever catalogue which sums up the exhibition series of the year 2021, ‘ein Buch in Form einer Ausstellung’, is on display here at einBuch.haus and available to purchase from our shop. Your support would help us to keep the space and project. 🤍🖤

We are very grateful to Regine Ehleiter’s essay included in the catalogue, titled ‘A look at the 1960s: remarks on the concept of “a book in the form of an exhibition”’
In the essay she brought the examples of the history of exhibition practice in the 1960’s in relation to the practice at einBuch.Haus to quote her text, “Rather than questioning definitions of “book” and “exhibition,” the chosen curatorial theme situates the projects on show at einBuch.haus within a discursive, post-conceptual practice that playfully evokes references from art and exhibition history, and selects the most suitable media presentation for each specific project.”

Hi, it’s Jae Kyung, a founding director of the artbook platform, einBuch.haus.
Today, I want to introduce our team who have helped to realize this year’s exhibition series. Their work has been greatly appreciated, through the difficulties of this past year, their help has allowed for a smooth production and it has been great to be able to work together.
Our team is myself, Anna and Izzi. Please continue reading who we are!

Jae Kyung's experience is based on her work in the museum and historical place in London, when she was at the Royal College of Art, she wanted to create an exhibition space where the artist book is the main theme. Her curatorial theme ‘ein Buch in Form einer Ausstellung (A book in the form of an exhibition‘ started from 2018, when einBuch.haus opened with the first exhibition with the project ‘Two Pages’. She is always looking for artist books & books on books to showcase at einBuch.haus.

At einBuch.haus, Anna is working in the field of press and communication, as well as assisting in the production of publications, exhibitions, events and other projects. Having studied art research, media theory and communication design at the University of Arts and Design Karlsruhe, she is interested in the curatorial possibilities and diversity of artist’s books.

Izzi is currently interning at einBuch.haus, assisting in exhibition curation and helping in different areas such as exhibition promotions, press release, social media etc. Her background is in graphic design, which she is studying at Kingston School of Art in London.

To sum up the project series ‘ein Buch in Form einer Ausstellung’ in 2021, we are going to publish our first catalogue.

In the catalogue, there is a short essay titled ‘A look at the 1960s: remarks on the concept of “a book in the form of an exhibition”’ written by a Berlin-based curator and art historian, Regine Ehleiter, whose research focuses on exhibition history, artists’ publications and conceptualism.

Together with the catalogue launch, we will re-present six artist books & artworks by NANA & FELIX, Gloria Glitzer, Kyoungtae Kim, Mareike Jacobi, David Horvitz and An Onghena.

Our first ever catalogue which sums up the exhibition series of the year 2021, ‘ein Buch in Form einer Ausstellung’, is on display here at einBuch.haus and available to purchase from our shop. Your support would help us to keep the space and project. 🤍🖤 We are very grateful to Regine Ehleiter’s essay included in the catalogue, titled ‘A look at the 1960s: remarks on the concept of “a book in the form of an exhibition”’ In the essay she brought the examples of the history of exhibition practice in the 1960’s in relation to the practice at einBuch.Haus to quote her text, “Rather than questioning definitions of “book” and “exhibition,” the chosen curatorial theme situates the projects on show at einBuch.haus within a discursive, post-conceptual practice that playfully evokes references from art and exhibition history, and selects the most suitable media presentation for each specific project.” 📖 ein Buch in Form einer Ausstellung, 2021 einBuch.haus, 2021 Text: Regine Ehleiter English Translation: Nicholas Grindell 140 x 195mm, 56pp; German, English Risograph and digital offset print Cover attached an envelope with six previous exhibition flyers Edition of 100 (Photo: Olivia Kwok)
