Performing arts ecosystem: balances and relations amidst the pandemic

[✏Survey]

The performing arts sector is living through challenging times today. We often hear and say that we should not get back to the “normal” after the pandemic and use this crisis as an opportunity to reinvent our sector in a more sustainable and fair way.

Your voice is essential to this publication: Answer the survey here ↓

The pandemic reality has had a strong impact on the relationships within the performing arts ecosystem: it revealed and deepened inequalities that already existed. In some countries, support measures were intended to even those inequalities and support the most vulnerable players. However, in others...

Hungary: Protesters rally against university 'takeover' in Budapest

The next generation of theatre-makers, as well as the future of the arts, are at stake. Thousands of people formed a 🤝 human chain 🤝 across Budapest on Sunday to demand independence for universities in Hungary 🇭🇺. At the centre of the protest, the University of Theatre and Film Arts whose elected board was replaced last week by an advisory board close to the Orban administration.

Press Release

📣 "Theatre needs more visibility on a European level." This statement, formulated for the first time in 2017 to the European Commission by ETC, slowly took the way of consultations with key European policy-makers, meetings with other networks, round tables with European stakeholders, until reaching the next promising step: the European Theatre Forum. ✨

The #EuropeanTheatreForum will offer, for the first time, a European representation for the entire sector as one of Europe’s major art forms, within and outside Europe. ETC is proud to be coordinating this initiative: Read the official launch press release below to learn more!

European Theatre Convention, Bundesverband Freie Darstellende Künste e.V. and ITI Zentrum Deutschland are the initiative group for a European Theatre Forum, in the frame of the German EU Council Presidency (Germany in the EU), in cooperation with the German Minister of State for Culture and Media and the European Commission (Creative Europe).

Consortium group is constituted of Assitej International, Bundesverband Freie Darstellende Künste e.V., Europe: Union of Theatre Schools and Academies, EAIPA European Association of Independent Performing Arts, European Festivals Association (EFA), European Theatre Convention, IETM international network for contemporary performing arts, ITI Zentrum Deutschland, Mitos21 European Theatre Network, Pearle Live Performance Europe, Prospero and UTE - Union des Théâtres de l'Europe

Europe’s theatre sector now has a strategic platform for exchange & policymaking: the European Theatre Forum 2020 will take place for the first time in November 2020.
