Node Center for Curatorial Studies was created in order to offer a platform to teach, experiment, and investigate subjects related to curatorial studies, and contemporary art practices. The Center´s core activity stems from the Curatorial Studies Program that offers its participants the possibility of expanding their work experience, with professional feedback and technical support, by developing projects in Berlin. CURATORIAL STUDIES RESIDENCY PROGRAM The Curatorial Studies Residency Program offers students the opportunity to pursue theoretical-practical investigations, with professional feedback and technical support, by developing projects in Berlin. The program lasts eleven weeks -thirty hours per week-. During this time the resident will enjoy a shared office were he can develop his research, as well as an area for experimenting with new exhibition formats. Node offers residents necessary resources for curatorial investigations and its practical applications. At the same time, residents will participate in activities that are programed by Node: workshops, seminars, meetings with guest specialists, artist's work presentations, and visits to exhibition spaces, among others. www.nodecenter.org Educational Online Platform: www.nodecenter.net

#Fridayreads: “In this manifesto, we argue that we are in urgent need of a politics of that puts care front and centre. By care, however, we not only mean ‘hands-on’ care, or the work people do when directly looking after the physical and emotional needs of others - critical and urgent as this dimension of caring remains. ‘Care’ is also a social capacity and activity involving the nurturing of all that is necessary for the welfare and flourishing of life. Above all, to put care centre stage means recognising and embracing our interdependencies.” From ‘The Care Manifesto’ by The Care Collective #NodeReads

Join us in our next Node Talk with artist Andreas Greiner who will talk about ways of calculating the CO2 production of an exhibition and the challenges of creating art with a small carbon footprint.

When? Dec 16, 13 CET. Register here: https://bit.ly/3oM88DY

In his work, Andreas Greiner examines human impact on our planet. For his project “Jungle Memory” (2019), Andreas used Artificial Intelligence and a Deep-Learning Algorithm to archive endangered forests worldwide. He also questioned the art world’s role in CO2 production in his latest project for the exhibition “Zero Waste” (2020) in Leipzig. Here, he calculated how many newly planted trees would level out the exhibition’s Carbon Footprint.

“One is not born, but rather becomes, a body. And one is not born, but rather becomes, a glitch.” Normally thought of as an error, in “Glitch Feminism” Legacy Russell shows that the glitch can lead to revolution through memoir, critical theory and the work of contemporary artists like boychild and Sondra Perry.

Mediumship is the skill that enables people to connect with the spiritual realm. Catalan artist Josefa Tolra’s ability to connect with spirits awakened after her husband’s death. Soon she started to channel these spiritual experiences into an art production centered mainly on drawing. A few weeks ago we visited an exhibition dedicated to her work and friendship with artist and poet Joab Brossa at the @fundaciobrossa.

Whether it is Jamaican dancehall competitions or tuxedoed students in the Bahamas who roll into prom staging grand red-carpet entrances, in 'Shine' art historian Krista Thompson argues that performing for the camera is more important than the final image itself as it provides a means for self-representation in the public sphere. From the street photography in New York to dancehall videos in Jamaica, she investigates this art of the performance, bridging distinct visual practices, artistic forms, and modes of visibility in the African diaspora.

#FridayReads: Despite the declaration of the death of the author, the modern myth of the artist as a genius, bohemian, and charismatic visionary is still prevalent today. Yet this notion is decades out of date. In fact, many aspects of artistic practice have radically shifted. The art world we know today has undergone a deep transoformation since the establishment of the modern art world.⠀
So what does it mean to make art today? In 'Made in Mind: Myths and Realities of the Contemporary Artist' author Marta Gnyp interviews established artists to reflect on what it really means to be an artist in present times and to talk about their private motivations and ambitions. ⠀

What is radical writing? According to artist Jose Luis Castillejo, it means understanding writing as an autonomous artistic practice, that experiments with the aesthetic quality of the elements of writing itself: letters, ink, books and signs that give way to a visual poetry. Seen here are a few works from the ‘TLALAATALA’ exhibition at the @caac_sevilla in 2018, the first major retrospective devoted to the full scope of Castillejo’s work.

Dear colleagues, please join us for this online conference on the experiences of oil. Keynote Kathryn Yusoff.
Call for participation!
Objects of Affection (During the Covid-19) Objects are never neutral: symbolic of a period, affect, desire, malaise or memory, they are central to networks of relationship that help us understand reality and ourselves within it. Now let's imagine a historian who would like to talk about life during the Covid-19, in Italy as well as elsewhere in the world, through images of objects that have become symbolic of this period for each of us by arranging them into an exhibition.
What objects, beyond sanitary devices (such as masks, gloves and others), could become part of this exhibition, and why? MIRABILIA (https://www.facebook.com/culturaemirabilia/), a small group of thoughtful, committed people from different fields, launches the project Objects of affection (during the COVID-19) virtual exhibition (free of charge, freely accessible) which will feature images of objects as well as accompanying narratives explaining the choice of the particular object. The content of the exhibition will be created by those who want to contribute to this common effort to convey, as well as to reconstruct, the visual representation of this period collective feeling. Taking part:
➤ Choose an object that for you is symbolic of this period. It might be an object you began to use since the emergency began, or one you have become particularly fond of during the lockdown, or something you consider representative of the situation: it can be any object of your choice, except the medical disposals (masks, gloves and other).
➤ Take a good quality photo of the object (the resolution needed should be no lower than 800x600 pixels), which would be representative of its shape. aim for good light and a sharp focus. We are accepting formats such as JPG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, please refrain from using others, such as .pdf.
➤ Download the participation (including the release of rights) here https://tinyurl.com/ydabs5sy and fill it with brief personal data (such as name and surname, age, city, country, occupation), as well as the name or nickname that you want us to use for your exhibition entry, a very brief description of the object and, moreover, the reasons for your choice: why this particular object and what it means to you.
➤ Send the photos, along with the participation form, before May 18th, 2020 to [email protected] We kindly thank you in advance for your participation to this project aimed at collecting material for this virtual exhibition. Your contribution will help us understand better how we are dealing with the present and we are feeling during this period, and to share these insights and feelings thereof with the audience of the exhibition.
