Last night’s sold-out concert at Nicolaihaus in Berlin was a truly special evening.
I had the pleasure of performing together with violist Peijun Xu and actor Stephan Baumecker. The concert was especially meaningful to me because we presented my new composition Four Ballads for Viola and Piano. Peijun mastered its technical challenges with fairy-like lightness and elegance.
Stephan Baumecker gave a deeply memorable reading of Eduard Mörike’s poetry in Ralf Gothóni’s beautiful work Peregrina. We also performed works by Grieg and Bowen.
My heartfelt thanks as well to all our Berlin friends who came to the concert — you made the evening unforgettable.

Yesterday, on May 14, I had the pleasure of performing at the beautiful Abtei Marienmünster together with violist Peijun Xu.

Our program included works by Edvard Grieg, York Bowen and Ralf Gothóni, as well as my own composition Four Ballads. The Mörike texts in Gothóni’s Peregrina were vividly recited by Hans Herrmann Jansen.

We were grateful for an enthusiastic audience, and I also had the joy of playing on a wonderfully restored Steinway grand piano over 100 years old — a remarkable instrument in a truly special setting.

Concert poster for our recital on May 19, 2026 at 7:30 PM in Berlin’s Nicolaihaus!

I will be performing together with Peijun Xu (viola), and we have also received the wonderful news that the poems of Eduard Mörike will be read by actor Stephan Baumecker.

He is a highly experienced actor whom many Germans know from numerous television and film roles. In Berlin, he is also well known as a long-standing ensemble member of the Berliner Ensemble and the Schillertheater, as well as from collaborative projects with the Berlin Philharmonic.

Now is the time to reserve your tickets — only a few dozen seats are still available!

Today I was in Detmold, where I had the pleasure of performing Ralf Gothóni’s expressive and beautiful viola sonata Peregrina together with Prof. Peijun Xu — for the composer himself.

It was such a joy to meet Raffe again after a long time. Years ago, I attended his chamber music periods regularly for seven years at the Sibelius Academy, and so many of the musical and artistic lessons I learned there are still deeply present in my work as a pianist today.

A very special and meaningful day.

At the Berlin state competition of Jugend musiziert, I had the pleasure of serving on the jury and listening to 26 young pianists (ages 10–12) at the University of Arts. It was a challenging task, as children at this age develop at very different paces. Each of them, however, was an interesting talent in their own way. In addition to me, the jury consisted of four friendly and highly professional colleagues: Elvire Dörr, Wilmar Mestizo, Dr. Natalia Sander, and Yannick Wirner.

Right after the last little pianist had played, I hurried to the Joseph Joachim Concert Hall on Bundesallee, where my student Friedemann Helmke performed in Category V: Chopin, Beethoven and Rautavaara. The level in the older category was truly impressive. Friedemann did his best and was awarded a 2nd prize (22/25 points). I’m very proud of his beautiful performance and his rapid progress – and now we can move on to new repertoire! 🎶

Yesterday’s concert at Kloster Walderbach was a wonderful experience. I had the pleasure of performing together with the fantastic violist Peijun Xu (Professor at the Detmold University of Music). In Ralf Gothóni’s composition Pelegrina, poems by Eduard Mörike were beautifully read by Reinhard Hößl.

A particularly special moment for me was the premiere of my own composition, Four Ballads for Viola and Piano. This approximately 25-minute work has been in progress for nearly five years, and I could not have imagined a better performer for it than Peijun Xu, who navigated its considerable virtuoso challenges with the lightness of a butterfly.

Many thanks as well to the enthusiastic and deeply engaged audience!

My beloved father passed away at the beginning of January.
For this reason, I need to reschedule two concerts originally planned for February.

The concert at the Nicolaihaus in Berlin, originally scheduled for February 12, will take place on May 19, 2026.
The concert planned in Neumünster will take place on May 14, 2026.

In both concerts, I will be joined by violist Peijun Xu.
I will share further details about the programs in due course.

Listening to the traditional New Year’s concert and Strauss today, I found myself fondly remembering a lovely encounter with Rainer Honeck, concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic, at the Mikkeli Music Festival.

Happy New Year! 🎶✨

Our Finnish-German Christmas sing-along concert at Berlin’s Passionskirche is a tradition very dear to me. 🎄✨
I got to play with Dorothea Preisler (flute), Andrea Ullrich-Permutti (cello), and a bunch of talented kids—including two of my own. Sibelius and other Finnish Romantic composers brought their moody, magical carols, alongside cheerful German and English tunes. 🌟
Even on a rainy Monday, a wonderful audience joined us—and the singing sounded amazing! 🎶🇫🇮🇩🇪
