I'm playing at Patterns of Perception // Lux & natural/electronic.system. next Friday (the 6th) 🙃

Here's the first mix I ever recorded lööölz. Hope to see you there xoxoxoxo

Back over four years ago, when Patterns of Perception was still just an idea beginning to take shape, resident Andreas Maan put out this session as part of the launch of our mix series.

He says he's thinking of dropping a few of his old favourites on 6 December when he joins Lux, natural/electronic.system. and fellow-resident Hysteria at OHM Berlin for Patterns of Perception // Lux & natural/electronic.system.

Part 3 of Joshua Teicher's improvised guitar-based ambient release series, which I've been mastering 💜

🌊 It’s been awhile, but I’m back with Pt. 3 of my new ambient project! I’ve been a bit busy of late and the live recordings are mounting up.

To me, this piece has a bit of a different sound and feeling to the other two, what do you think? ✨⁣

You can also find this and others on my Youtube and Bandcamp > linktr.ee/joshuateichermusic

Joshua Teicher

The second (and possibly my personal favourite) instalment in the series of live ambient guitar pieces performed by Joshua Teicher (and mastered by me).

🌊Here’s the 2nd installment of my new project. Put your headphones in and watch the shapes move 🌊⁣

I’ve been so moved by the positive reaction to this new music - thanks so much! ⁣

(Download available on bandcamp & streaming on YouTube)

🌙⁣

A little background:⁣

A few months ago I jokingly said to Phia maybe I should improvise some solo guitar ambient music during the Melbourne Indie Voices breathing/physical warmup. She said, “that’s a great idea”. 😳 ⁣

Imagine this: people arrive and are invited to shut their eyes and focus on their breath, letting go of the day and focusing on the now, then moving into some gentle physical movements and stretches before we begin... My job is creating the soundtrack to that special time, a sonic representation of being suspended and gently held in the moment and letting go. 🌊⁣

So, fast forward to now and I’ve been improvising short pieces 3 times a week on just a guitar and a *few* pedals and recording most of them into my phone. ⁣

There’s so much more to come, you can hear the first one at www.joshuateicher.com
Enjoy...⁣

Lots of rad sets here, including one or two by me 😏

Over the years, some spellbinding sets from our beloved guest artists and residents have been recorded live at Patterns of Perception parties at OHM Berlin and ABOUT BLANK.

We have quietly been collecting all these in one place on our SoundCloud page. The playlist includes music from guest artists Refracted, Ben Buitendijk, Fjäder, Volte-Face, Svreca, Wa Wu We (aka Sebastian Mullaert), Jacopo, Paula Koski, Roman Ćinske (By the Inch) and Nuel, plus our own Kim Bergstrand, Steve Duncan, Andreas Maan and Hysteria.

We hope you enjoy reliving these moments as much as we do 🔈🎵

Producers and audio engineers: this is a piece of software designed to train listeners in how to identify timbral nonlinearities and other colourations in audio.

It was designed by Harman, a world leader in evidence-based loudspeaker design, for use in loudspeaker testing, but I can imagine it being equally useful for producers and mixing/mastering engineers who want to better train themselves to identify subtle changes in music resulting from EQ, reverb, noise, etc.

Very interesting little piece of software.

Pls let me know if you know of other similar softwarez x

No 4 Andreas Maan
With a background in instrumental music, electronic music production, and loudspeaker design, it was only a matter of time (and a relocation to Berlin) before Andreas Maan found himself in front of a pair of turntables, and later founded Patterns of Perception with a group of likeminded friends.

Moving between ambient eclecticism and dancefloor-oriented techno, his DJ sets appeal as much to the body as to the mind, and are marked by their depth, drive, and ever-rising intensity.

Andreas Maan & Hysteria (Patterns of Perception) - Echo Chamber

yo so i've just realised (or was told maybe and then somehow forgot) that Echo Chamber, the track Hysteria and i collaborated on for The Zeitgeist, is on youtube

we made this track in a pretty odd way. one of us would get 48 hours to come up with a single element in isolation, and then return the track to the other, who would have another 48 hours (longer if it was sunday) to add another element. this went back and forth until it felt like enough of something to sit down together and finish off. the result is what you hear

the record itself is also available via Bandcamp and from sydney's Something Else Record Store and features music by australian artists connected to berlin, including Eluize, Trinity AU, Mike Callander, DJ Simon Caldwell, Claire Morgan, Alex Albrecht - Melquíades, and Mind:Body:Fitness

special mention to Christian Vance who tirelessly put the whole thing together

Was just incorporating a mono recording of some ambient sound into a track in Ableton and worked out a convenient shortcut to double mono recordings without having to create two separate audio tracks.

Insert a simple delay unit in the audio channel containing the recording and configure it is as shown (the optimum difference between L and R channels might be anywhere between about 10ms and 25ms, is dependent on the recording, and needs to be determined by ear).

The only disadvantage I can imagine would be distortion (if any) introduced by the effects unit itself, and the fact that you will now have your whole recording delayed at least 1ms (since 0ms is not an option), forcing you to move your clip forward 1ms in arrangement view if it is to be used as part of a composite sound containing transients (unlikely if you're doubling it in the first place).

hey lovelies, i have a new mix out on Patterns of Perception

actually, this mix been bursting to get out of me for over 2 years, but until this month i hadn't had time to sit down and do it properly

it's an eclectic but (i hope) cohesive patchwork of musique concrète, ambient, and minimalism, with a touch of medieval chant

i hope you enjoy listening as much as i enjoyed the process of creating

about 10-15 years ago i was reading a magazine in melbourne where there was an article in which the author tried to give an introduction to classical and modern classical music in a selection of 10 or 15 pieces. the article was well-written and seemed to range a little wider than the standard canon.

i tore it out thinking that i'd try to collect or at least listen to these pieces over time.

a few years later i found the pages when cleaning and once again decided to try to track the music down. for some reason at that point i decided to transfer the list to a handwritten note that would fit in my wallet, and throw out the original article.

i then forgot about it completely again. until today when i decided to re-organise the boxes of junk in my room and found it.

now listening to perotin's sederant principes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMyWnCf2Anc) and feeling pretty happy this thing resurfaced 🌅
