The publication is the outcome of a series of online lunch lectures at ETH Zürich, organized by studio Jan de Vylder during the Corona lockdown. The briefing for the speakers was as simple as it was tricky: Talk about seven questions that you consider relevant without answering them. The results were as diverse as the contributors: 70 experts from architecture, design, history, theory, sociology, art, etc. gave an insight in the creative processes that drive their work.
With contributions by Tom Avermaete, Tatiana Bilbao, Petra Blaisse, Philippe Block, Lilitt Bollinger, Roger Boltshauser, Emanuel Christ, Irina Davidovici, Fredi Fischli, Joseph Grima, Nikolaus Hirsch, Bijoy Jain, Momoyo Kaijima, Charlotte Malterre-Barthes, Elli Mosayebi, Freek Persyn, Eva Prats, Alice Rawsthorn, Marianna Rentzou, Philip Ursprung, Christophe Van Gerrewey, Inge Vinck, Lori Waxman, and many more.

"Everyday Matters", edited by Vanessa Grossman and Ciro Miguel. Photos by Ciro Miguel. Design by Something Fantastic.
Beatriz Colomina and Mark Wigley write in their foreword: "That which literally happens every day is so ever present, ever repeated, that it paradoxically goes unnoticed. The everyday is in this sense environmental, like water to fish––which is precisely what makes it so crucial to architects but also what torments them."
Featuring contributions by architectural designers, historians, and theoreticians, as well as scholars in fields such as cultural geography, environmental anthropology, political philosophy, and sociology, this book chronicles how the everyday has influenced contemporary approaches to architecture and urbanism, triggering the rise of a new ethics and aesthetics.
Contributions by Caitlin DeSilvey, Geisa Garibaldi (Concreto Rosa), Vanessa Grossman, Anna Heringer, Andrés Jaque (Office for Political Innovation), GuillermoLopez and Anna Puigjaner (MAIO), Charlotte Malterre Barthes, Markus Miessen (Studio Miessen), Ciro Miguel, Mouraria 53, DjamiaRibeiro, Renzo Taddei, Ilze Wolff and Heinrich Wolff (Wolff Architects)
You can order the book in our Ruby Press webshop (http://ruby-press.com/shop/everyday-matters-contemporary-approaches-to-architecture/) and soon at your local book store.
"Never Demolish", curated by Ilka Ruby and Andreas Ruby at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion. Nov 26th – Dec 16th.
The exhibition on the transformation of 530 apartments in Cité du Gand Parc Bordeaux by Lacaton & Vassal, Frédéric Druot, and Christophe Hutin transforms the Barcelona Pavilion into a domestic space.
In a 1:1 installation the visitor can experience the effect of the extension of the living spaces through the addition of wintergardens in Cité du Grand Parc. Between Mies' famous Onyx wall and the glass facade of the Pavilion an almost 10-meter-long wall takes on the role of the sliding glass façade of the project in Bordeaux. The wall is printed with large photos that simulate from one side the view from the winter garden into the living room and from the other side the view from the living room into the wintergardens. The thermal and sunscreen curtains used in the project are also used in the installation. In addition, the room is equipped with furnitures and plants to give the impression of the domestic atmosphere. A film about the project provide visitors with important background information.

NEW RELEASE: 2nd issue of the "Chapters" series
Design in Dialogue. 51N4E, endeavour, Denkstatt. Edited by Newrope ETH Zurich.
How can design processes be shaped through dialogue to give different actors the opportunity to add, remove or change something in an attempt to exceed the expectations of everyone involved?
The first part of the book investigates the work of Brussels-based architecture firm 51N4E and two design-focused consulting firms, endeavour from Antwerp and Denkstatt from Basel. All three companies explore the boundaries of architecture, advocating openness and dialogue with clients.
A second part of the publication examines the hidden presence of this “design in dialogue” approach in a wide range of European architecture firms and their projects—not as a new methodology to study, but as a liberating attitude to share, cherish, and develop.
With contributions by Harder Haas, Atelier Bow-Wow, Lacol, Studio Paola Viganò, Equip 10+1, Onkruid, Caruso St John Architects, and Communitism.
