Born in 1969 in Trentino Südtirol, Michele Caliari studied history and geography at the University of Bologna until he moved to Berlin in 2000 thanks to a DAAD scholarship. That very year he assisted a Polaroid-Photographer at the Berlinale Palace and, for the first time, he held a professional Polaroid Land camera in his hand.
He discovered he is a Photographer because of Berlin and this camera. Soon he started to travel with it and to collect a travel book. Arno Fischer looked over it at his Masterclass in Berlin. Pluto, is still a work in progress, not yet shown to the public.

Mit der Ausstellung Jahrgang 14 präsentieren die Absolvent:innen der Berliner Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie ihre Abschlussprojekte. Die 18 Arbeiten bewegen sich zwischen dokumentarischer und künstlerischer Fotografie, und behandeln wichtige politische und soziale, wie auch persönlichere Themen: Militärcamps für Kinder in Polen, Umweltzerstörung und Zukunftsdystopien, die NS-Vergangenheit der eigenen Familie, Porträts der russischen Community in Berlin, die künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit Mental Health, Einblicke in eine isolierte Lebensweise auf einer griechischen Insel, die im heutigen Europa nur noch selten anzutreffen ist, inszenierte Gruppenporträts in Halle-Neustadt, Mikro-und Makro- Kosmos Stadt, absurde Sammlungen, die Zeitenwende des Braunkohleabbaugebiets in der Lausitz uvm. Ein abwechslungsreiches Rahmenprogramm rundet die Werkschau ab.
The graduates of the Berlin Ostkreuz School for Photography present their final projects with the 14th year exhibition.
The 18 works range between documentary and art-photography and deal with important political and social topics: military camps for children in Poland, environmental destruction, portraits of the Russian community in Berlin, the Nazi past of one's own family, the artistic examination of mental health and much more. A supporting program rounds off the exhibition.

This Saturday! Still a few places available!! >>> Posted @withregram • @elenakarakitsou On 21/8 I ll be organising a workshop on Cyanotypes at my studio in Schöneweide. Looking forward to sharing my so far experience on cyanotypes with more people!
During the workshop you will learn how to create cyanotypes on paper and textile. You will have the opportunity to carry out various experiments and try the different possibilities of the process. You will learn some tricks and tips to create an artistic result and also have the opportunity to learn how to add toning to the cyanotypes by using easy natural ingredients to change the hue of them.
We will work with photograms (objects in direct contact with the photosensitive paper) or digital negatives (inverted black/ white photos inkjet-printed on transparencies). Previous technical knowledge of the process is not required.
The cost of the workshop is 90€/per participant. For unemployed, students and holders of the Berlin Pass there is a reduced cost of 55€.

This coming weekend in the Rathenau Hallen, where the Treptow Ateliers are currently located, Hanna Hildebrand will present the state of her ongoing research project "Straße", in which she explores the area of Oberschöneweide.
Rathenau Hallen are part of an historically important industrial complex, which were integral to the societal dramas of the 20th century. Signs of these times are still very present and they are intertwined with the recent urban development. The dense history of the area, offers many points of departure to explore, from the well know figures and industries of the area to the everyday realities over time.
Hildebrand’s work takes its basis in everyday life, often from the position of documenting, and moves into the realm of the imaginary, through the use of diverse medias and storytelling. The artist extends an open invitation for this weekend to join in conversation over refreshments.

HIT and RUN KINO @ Treptow Ateliers last night. Excellent artist shorts as pre-program.
Im Dezember 2012 zogen die Ersten von uns in das Atelierhaus in der Mörikestraße 4–12 in Berlin-Baumschulenweg ein. Seitdem ist viel passiert. Einige gingen, andere kamen hinzu und langsam bildete sich eine Gemeinschaft, wie man sie nur noch selten in Berlin findet. Ein Ort des Austausches und der gegenseitigen Unterstützung, ein Ort des konzentrierten Arbeitens und der gemeinschaftlichen Präsentation.
2018 dann kam die Kündigung. Das Gebäude sei nicht mehr zeitgemäß, zu ineffizient.
Betrachtungssache: für uns war das Gebäude äußerst effizient, wir protestierten. Aber es nutzte alles nicht. Ein um 8 Monate verlängertes Bleiberecht konnten wir beim Vermieter aushandeln, mehr nicht. Immerhin 8 Monate mehr Zeit etwas Neues zu finden.
Etwas Neues finden. In einem Berlin der explodierenden Mieten, nicht nur für Wohnungen, sondern gerade auch für Gewerbemieten, denn Künstlerateliers gelten als Gewerbeflächen, ein unmögliches Unterfangen.
Wir wandten uns an die Politik und erhielten viel Unterstützung. Vom Treptow-Köpenicker Baustadtrat Rainer Hölmer zum Beispiel, der nicht in einem Bezirk ohne Künstler leben mochte. Oder von Gregor Gysi, der extra vorbeikam, um uns zu helfen, um nur zwei Beispiele zu nennen. Aber an entscheidender Stelle erfuhren wir leider keine Unterstützung:
In der Wilhelminenhofstraße 90a steht eine ehemalige Berufsschule leer, droht zu verfallen, schon seit mindestens 11 Jahren. Wir wollen da rein, die gemeinnützige Triodos-Bank im Rücken, die uns unterstützen will. Doch in der Senatskulturverwaltung sagt man, das Gebäude sei bereits für das Atelierprogramm vorgesehen. Wenn wir Bedarf hätten, sollten wir uns jeder einzeln um ein gefördertes Atelier bewerben.
Das Atelierprogramm: viel zu wenige geförderte Ateliers, begrenzt auf maximal 8 Jahre. Und wenn man mal zu erfolgreich ist, ist schon nach 2 Jahren Schluss. Sieht so Förderung aus? 8670 Künstlern auf Ateliersuche im Jahr 2018 stehen 35 neu entstandene, durch die Senatskulturverwaltung geförderte Ateliers gegenüber. *
Wir erarbeiteten ein Konzept, das Gebäude selbstständig zu sanieren, Ausstellungsräume zu schaffen – nicht nur für uns – und die überschüssigen Ateliers kostenfrei dem Atelierprogramm des Senats zuzuführen. Eine Win-Win-Situation, dachten wir. In der Senatskulturverwaltung winkte man ab. Das Gebäude verfällt weiter.
Aus unserem Atelierhaus in der Mörikestraße sind wir raus, die Abrissbagger haben in den letzten Wochen ihre unselige Arbeit verrichtet.
In buchstäblich letzter Minute haben wir Interims-Ateliers in den Oberschöneweider Rathenau-Hallen gefunden, für 1 1/2 Jahre. Unsere Suche und Kampf gehen weiter.

Aktzeichnen am Wochenende
zum Einstieg und für Fortgeschrittene. Vom akademischen Akt bis hin zur freien Interpretation. Untersucht wir das Spiel von Licht und Schatten, die Proportion sowie die Wirkung verschiedener Darstellungstechniken. Auch Portraitzeichnen anhand des Modells ist möglich.
Gezeichnet wird mit Bleistiften, Kohle und Kreide. Wer möchte und Vorkenntnisse hat, kann mit Farbe (Acryl, Aquarell, Gouache) arbeiten. Der Kurs ist auch zur Mappenvorbereitung geeignet. Spezielle Themen und Wünsche der Teilnehmer/innen werden gern berücksichtigt und in die Kursinhalte eingebaut.
