Congratulations to Shun Yu Ella Wong (Hong Kong) for being a winner in the Evil in Our Daily Lives Art Prize. Shun Yu won in the category of Fine Art. Well done Shun Yu, we are all proud of you. This artist’s work will be on display at the exhibition at Alte Munze, Molkenmarkt 2, Berlin from 12 September to 17 September 2020, from 12pm - 7pm Daily.

See our Facebook and Youtube channels to watch the awarding ceremony to see all the winners.

The Banality of Evil in our Daily Lives Art Prize, initiated and sponsored by artist and social activist @SaySay.love, who was inspired by Hannah Arendt, wanted to encourage artists to interpret the theme and relate what they perceive the banality of evil in “their” daily lives and the thoughtlessness of our society.

575 qualified entries from 89 countries that met the submission requirements were posted on BOE social media channels for public voting.

About the artwork:
Title: Emergence
Category: Paintings & Drawings
Size: 76.5 cm x 38 cm
Artwork Description: Regarding the notion of regret as a physical manifestation with an impulse to emerge within a person, I presented it as a protective shell, much like the chrysalis of an insect. Inspired by shunga masters such as Kitagawa Utamaro, the cloth pooled on the floor, as well as the nudity point to a displaced sense of eroticism, contrasting the grotesque nature of the piece. While a chrysalis can symbolize protection and concealment of said "regret", it also signifies an inevitable emergence.

Title: Hug Me
Category: Sculpture
Size: 35 cm x 180 cm, ca. 7 kg

About the artwork:
Title: Fatigue Sleep
Category: Photography & Digital Media
Size: 50.8 cm x 33.87 cm
Artwork Description: Homeless Woman sleeps in Dhaka. A large number of homeless women in Dhaka have lost their homes and properties through floods, river erosion and other natural calamities, and come to the city in the hope of a better future. These people have no place to hold themselves. Their day starts in dump streets and ends at the roads of nowhere. Concrete covered streets are a bed of roses for these refugees who actually do not possess any identity. They are basically street hackers, labourers, street children etc.

About the artwork:
Title: The Little Unknown
Category: Performance
Artwork Description: Colectiva 9 Gramos is formed by Joyce Islas, dancer and actress, together with Mariana Fernández, circus artist and dancer. The collective's principle is experimental audiovisual work and the creation of performance shows in which theater merges with circus and dance. From body research and plastic composition, we seek to reach physical, mental, emotional and spiritual states that lead us to find a poetic and philosophical language related to our intuition and imagination. We look for symbols that allow us to illuminate the unconscious languages of the current collective.

The Banality of Evil in our Daily Lives Art Prize

The Banality of Evil in our Daily Lives art competition is an open call for artists to communicate what they see as the banality of evil in our daily lives. It poses a challenge to communicate that which has never been communicated before and create a platform for groundbreaking ideas to be brought into our collectivity. The project will draw on the power of art to give voice to our hopes, using this voice as a gathering call for other artists and like-minded individuals to speak up, to focus their attention and skills in envisioning a future we can proudly share.

Bemerkungen

I'm confused- Olya Kroytor (Russia) Her submission/work was produced in 2013. The timestamp is on her submission...The criteria for this competition stipulated that work should be made recently within the last few years. Can you clarify why her submission was chosen? Surely having rules and then disregarding them speaks volumes.
The Joker.
The Joker. Like the film’s most ardent critics, I fear that its central message is dangerous. Described by some as “irresponsible propaganda for the very men it pathologizes,” it’s also been referred to as “a toxic rallying cry for self-pitying incels.” Films such as "Joker" not only encourage misplaced sympathy for murderers but can also inspire violence. Make no mistake: they normalize brutality to the point of making evil ‘banal’. Psychopaths like that should be rehabilitated by giving them a mouthful of concentrated Goodness and Virtue.

It would be honest and practical to inform the artists that they would have to pay for the shipment of work to and from the venue "Should my artwork be selected I remain responsible for the packaging, shipment and payment of the work to the exhibition venue"
