At its core, HIVE views short films not as a minor form but as a radical one. It approaches the short film as capable of agility, experimentation, and dissent. Short films, by virtue of their economy and immediacy, can disrupt dominant narratives, circulate outside market constraints, and open space for collective rethinking.

After a long period of consideration, we’ve decided to shift HIVE to March in line with the festival’s new goals.

HIVE International Short Film Days returns on 18–21 March 2027 with our 6th edition.

This means we will unfortunately pause in 2026. Sorry to miss a year. At the same time, this change gives us the space to come back in 2027 with a more layered, responsive program.

We’ll announce when film submissions open soon. New plans are also taking shape beyond the festival dates, and we’re not letting this year pass without a few surprises.

THE SOCIAL LIFE OF FILM is an annual congress that brings together independent screening initiatives to explore the communal potential of the moving image.

From 20–23 November 2025 in Berlin, we joined THE SOCIAL LIFE OF FILM as the HIVE team. In this public setting, we presented our festival for the first time and had the opportunity to reflect on festival practices, as well as film and screening formats more broadly.

The SLOF context opened up space for shared thinking and new collaboration possibilities. Building on the momentum we gained there, we decided to introduce some changes to the festival, which we will announce soon.

It was especially meaningful that this edition took place at anorak, where we have previously collaborated. Many thanks to the entire SLOF community and everyone involved in the organization.
