Many thanks to everybody who supported and visited the AMBACTIA MEMORIA group exhibition at SomoS! Congratulations to our Curator-in-Residence Vanesa Peña Alarcón (ES), who successfully staged this international show that resonated with such diverse audiences, presenting us with new perspectives on Hispanic identity, colonization and migration. With great skill, the curator was able to create a coherent conversation between a large number of artists of different origins, which the SomoS team was very happy to support. Alarcón showed her versatility by also organizing a performance program and providing guided tours to the visitors of the gallery, also welcoming two representatives of the Embassy of Peru in Berlin. We salute Vanesa Alarcón for the accomplishment and dedication.

Special thanks to the participating artists Andrés Argüelles Vigo, Silvana Solivella, Constanza Camila, Ricardo Candía, Adriana Bickel, Carlos Gárate, Virginia Lázaro, Abel Azcona, Maria Amparo Gomar Vidal, Homo Velamine, Miguel Buenrostro. Last but not least our audience, who showed up with great enthusiasm, and all the friends who assisted in the making of the show.

Don’t miss the upcoming Ambactia Memoria video program presented at KSTN on October 11-27, and see you at the next SomoS' exhibition!

"Ambactia Memoria" was realized with the kind support of the Comunidad de Madrid, Ville de Lausanne, and the Government of Perú / Bicentenario Perú.

SomoS' current Artist-in-Residence Carlos Pesudo will present his paintings in his solo exhibition ‘OVO’ with the Galería Yusto/Giner in its space in Marbella, Spain.

The egg itself (ovo in portuguese) is a metaphor the artist uses as a natural element closely resembling the number ZERO, the starting point of all creative processes. The shape of the letters in ‘OVO’ (egg in Portuguese) is like a code word, composed of two letters that are in turn very elementary signs: the circle and the triangle, two fundamental elements of the language of the exhibition, found in nature, letters, architecture; the most basic, universal geometric figures which make up the symbols of all human cultures.

Opening: May 22 from 12 to 14h. (rsvp) The show runs until July 24.

SomoS is pleased to announce the participation of Séamus Gallagher in the Virtual Artist-in-Residence Program with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts | Conseil des arts du Canada

Séamus Gallagher is a non-binary Canadian media artist and performer working with photography, video, and virtual reality.

Modeling video game aesthetics into a tangible form, Séamus blurs the divisions between the physical and digital, creating spaces where these dimensions amalgamate and meld on each other.

Gallagher’s combinations of drag-aesthetics with video game engines and 3D modeling software are processed into drag-influenced masks, costumes, and backgrounds that are converted into paper templates that the artist physically replicates and assembles.
