When editing a dialogue scene, your first step is to show the viewer the position of the characters. To do this, start the shot with a master shot, a scene that guides the audience to where each character is. Different audio effects coming from different characters can help with this too. Place the characters' voices accordingly to create space in your scene and remember to pay attention to your phantom center (for stereo mixes) or the real center (for surround mixes) so you can place your main dialogue. This audiovisual information will be important to show the mood of the interaction.
Even before the dialogue itself, sound has the power of immersion, taking the player into an alternate reality, allowing him to assume any role he wishes.
