We all feel as though we know Carmen by heart. The plot seems simple enough: a gypsy woman falls in love with a soldier; for her, he abandons his military career, his fiancée, and the life he once knew. She, in turn, falls for a celebrated bullfighter, and the soldier kills her in a fit of jealousy.
