The Utopia Orchestra and Choir, conducted by Teodor Currentzis, have recently concluded their run of Bizet’s Carmen at the Salzburg Festival. The performances drew wide attention from the international press — and there is still more to share.

The Utopia Choir invites singers of all voice types to audition for upcoming projects under the direction of Teodor Currentzis.

The key project for 2027 is Bach’s St Matthew Passion, with performances scheduled for March and April 2027.

Tonight, Carmen returns to the Großes Festspielhaus for its closing performance at the Salzburg Festival.

As we prepare for one more evening together, our warmest thanks to everyone who has been part of this Carmen: musical director Teodor Currentzis, stage director Gabriela Carrizo and the Peeping Tom team, Asmik Grigorian, Jonathan Tetelman, Kristina Mkhitaryan and Davide Luciano together with the entire cast, and all the artists and teams who have created this production together with the Utopia Orchestra and Choir.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who shared these performances with us from the audience🖤 We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

‘An exercise in sonic sculpting, meticulously calibrated for each individual movement.’ This is how Salzburger Nachrichten described Brahms’s A German Requiem, performed by the Utopia Orchestra and Choir under Teodor Currentzis at the Salzburg Festival.

The programme also featured György Kurtág’s Grabstein für Stephan and Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto with Vilde Frang — a performance characterized by Drehpunkt Kultur as ‘a sweeping current of energy’.

The creative process began with a physical moodboard assembled by the stage director Gabriela Carrizo, together with the Peeping Tom team: images pinned to a wall, alongside stacks of books and albums.
