Paul Harfleet: “The Pansy Project” is Evergreen in New York

Learn the stories behind the images created by international illustrators. UK artist Paul Harfleet started planting pansies and then photographing them at locations of homophobic attacks in England and his project grew around the world. Learn the stories behind the images created by international illustrators. There are many locations to visit in the southern US documenting the past of the labyrinth Underground Railroad (https://www.pbs.org/black-culture/shows/list/underground-railroad/locations/). One museum in North Carolina tells of the Rose of Sharon flower (a Hibiscus flower) and its coded meaning - one of many codes and symbols that led the difficult way to freedom. https://m.facebook.com/washingtonundergroundrailroad/posts/1568407683278927 Berlin illustrator Dominik Schwäger created two versions of this story available at https://www.powerflowerposters.com/product-page/freedom-rose-sharon-v2-poster with a profit percentage to the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund working to preserve black history on many levels.

The story of Sophie Scholl is about young students forming the White Rose resistance group to captivate Germans to remember their greater humanity via a series of pamphlets they spread before they were killed. Sophie and her brother Hans were guillotined by the Nazis in 1943 with his last shout 'Long Live Freedom!'.
