The National Street Gallery (NSG) is a mobile artists exchange gallery found by Destreet a creative Ugandan Visaul Artist. NSG is an annual event consisting of two activities. The first part is a public gallery open to the public for one full year in a given Ugandan city or village. I
nvited artists from different local regions around Uganda work together with both national and international
artists on avoluntary basis, including art lovers and activists, in a four-day event to create artworks which advocate directly for both political and social change according to a proposed annual theme voiced by the community. Currently Uganda has no street art in public spaces. In this proposal we describe how we intend to promote street art that addresses Uganda’s major issues through giving voices to the unheard, by exposing information that has been ignored and to issues that have not been given the attention they deserve. These issues include drug abuse, crime, poverty, unemployment, discrimination, self-denial, HIV/AIDS, discrimination, sexual identity and cultural disguise among people. The National Street Gallery artworks created is on display for one full year, however during this one year The National Street Gallery committee shall travel with visiting artists around the country creating similar educative projects while educating more artists on the need to create art which visualises the needs of their communities.
