Tomorrow I will present the 7 metre long painting

strömungen:
where the current takes me

to the venue where it will hang.

This small section represents the torrential rain falls that have particularly affected north eastern Australia this year. They call them water bombs as they are so destructive and also fall from the skies.

Forced migration has many causes, unfortunately through wars but also through climate stressors……whether it be from prolonged periods of too little water or too much water…..rapidly flooding or slowly rising.

Just working on a large canvas at the moment and after only having worked on board or wood for a long time, there is a certain adjustment required……still undecided as to which way my preference lies.

I mean the boards are heavy but they can sure take a beating whereas the larger canvases you have to be a tad more careful.

As I have found out recently with my hole repair kit.

Only 4 days until the solstice to equinox project finishes…….but I think I’ll round it up to 100 small canvases.
Interesting seeing them all together, how I had certain phases of one style, palette technique, but what I believe is evident is a continual visual element of me.

Studio walls and always full.

During a lively and spicy on line co create conversation I switched of my brain and just painted….the result 6 little landscapes which after a few tweaks were finished last night.
For me personally it’s important to challenge myself with different formats so whilst I’m still working on my large 100x100cm series these smaller oblongs are a great way to stay flexible and find design solutions to making a painting work.

Creating a beautiful finish to paintings takes time.

Here are the tools I use to help create a smoother finish, which in turn will reflect light more evenly.
Some of my paintings are quite textured with deep grooves or high bumps and whilst I can’t or don’t want to totally remove these I do want to smooth them out a bit.
I’ve used the gel and I polished with the steel wool so it’s onto the cold wax now.

Some people love it others hate it, me I love the result but not the process.

Clear levelling gel.

The depth of colour and the smoothness of the finish when completed with cold wax is in my opinion just gorgeous.

It was great to be get the hands all paint splattered again so
next week I’ll get onto the larger paintings and hopefully resolve the series of seven paintings I’ve got waiting for me.

Kreativ im Lockdown😊: Heute mal auf Englisch, passend zum Internationalen Tag der englischen Sprache von unserer Kursleiterin Suzanne Lawerentz (Suzanne Lawerentz Art). How times change. As a young woman I backpacked around the world, and met young people from all walks of life some of which I still call friends 30 years later. I also remember handwriting letters to these friends so carefully that as many words as possible would fit in the aerogramme and still be legible for the reader. Nowadays we have the ease, speed and endless possibilities of the internet but one thing has remained constant, the use of English. Through English I have been able to maintain contact with my Finnish, Dutch, Australian and Spanish friends. And there is nothing like a lockdown to make you think........what’s so and so up to? During the lockdown I had the pleasure of reconnecting with some people, one of which I have known since I was 4 years old. She’s living in a country town in Australia and I‘m living in a small village in Germany. How different our worlds are. The Internet isn’t all sunshine but it is a wonderful vessel for keeping in touch, especially in these difficult times. Habt ihr auch Freunde, Bekannte und Verwandte mit denen ihr auf Englisch kommuniziert?😊
