Recently my painting ‘Chai-time’ was picked up for discussion around art organized by Arts Explora in UK in a care setting for senior citizens. I am glad the residents mostly of English background had a meaningful and engaging conversation. Below are some excerpts from the email I received.
“They spoke about the idea of coming together over Chai - what goes into making it, how it’s served, and sense of connection it brings. The residents were especially interested in the clothing and jewellery depicted, which led into a meaningful conversation about the craft of hand embroidery and how it’s sadly fading.
They also reflected on the role of mobile phones in our everyday lives and how they appear even in moments of tradition. The Inclusion of a cow and elephant gave rise to an interesting discussion.
There was a lot of appreciation for the scale of the artwork - some residents found the colours strikingly bright, others really embraced and admired the boldness of the palette. It sparked very honest and thoughtful exchange of perspective.”
Very grateful and overwhelmed that ‘Chai-time’ invoked discussions, my whole intention of reaching people through my art that revolves around Indian folk narratives is coming alive bit by bit 🙏🏼
