Visual Voices

Visual Voices Visual Voices is a non-profit organization focused on arts-based peacebuilding.

Visual Voices supports youth artists from communities affected by violent conflict. The Visual Voices vision is to become a global network of peacebuilding organizations, practitioners and artists that recognize the value of arts-based interventions in peacebuilding and the power of art in peace advocacy. Our mission is to strengthen the capacity of young artists (18-35 years old) from communities

affected by violent conflict, while building non-commercial platforms of expression for them to share their voice and advocate for peace through contemporary visual art. In doing so, we aim to combine traditional arts-based peacebuilding activities with substantive peace advocacy campaigns. For this reason, we define ourselves as working at the intersection between strategic social art and peacebuilding.

Over the past months, RELATE has created spaces for artistic expression, intercultural dialogue, learning, and community connection across Cyprus.✨
RELATE connected artists with migrant backgrounds with cultural practitioners, young people, activists, and local communities through mentorship, exhibitions, performances, workshops, festivals, and public discussions. The work centered on themes of identity, displacement, resilience, and inclusion, drawing directly on the experiences of the artists and communities involved.
The project offered ten artists from diverse migrant backgrounds a residency program, which included mentorship from established local artists, masterclasses with cultural practitioners, production support, and platforms to showcase their work publicly for the first time in Cyprus. From visual arts and dance performances to music, storytelling, and community-based workshops, RELATE highlighted the power of creativity as a tool for visibility, empowerment, and social connection.
Across Nicosia, Limassol, and Larnaca, participants engaged in exhibitions, intercultural festivals, antiracism discussions, language and cultural exchange activities, creative workshops for children and adults, and performances celebrating the cultural richness that participating artists brought with them.
The project also fostered important conversations around representation, racism, participation, migration, and access to cultural spaces, creating opportunities for dialogue between artists, researchers, policymakers, activists, and the wider public.
By engaging communities through art, RELATE encouraged people to encounter different cultures through dignity, creativity, and shared humanity, helping build more open, empathetic, and inclusive communities.
More than a series of events, RELATE built friendships, created professional opportunities, and demonstrated the strength of collective creative action.

What does an inclusive culture of remembrance look like in Europe today?

As part of the ReIMAGINE project, this research explores how remembrance culture is understood and practiced across Austria, Cyprus, Italy, Portugal, and Serbia — identifying shared patterns, important differences, and collective needs.

This Needs Assessment on Inclusive Remembrance Culture in Europe focuses on questions of inclusion, pluralism, and the role artistic approaches can play in shaping more open and participatory ways of remembering.

Rather than offering a definitive account, the research maps gaps, challenges, and possibilities across diverse and intersecting histories, experiences, and perspectives.

The slide deck is available in German, Greek, Turkish, Italian, Portuguese, and Serbian, alongside English as the common international project language on the project website and partner social media accounts.

Open-call to join Work-in-Progress Crit Sessions

Application deadline extended: 01/04/26

Kartzin presents the Work-in-Progress (WIP) Crit Sessions, facilitated by creative educator Andriana Lagoudes. These sessions are structured, peer-to-peer gatherings for emerging artists to share work and ideas that are still taking shape.

Developed in response to feedback from artists working across Cyprus — particularly within its fragmented cultural landscape and limited institutional infrastructure — that early-stage artistic practice can be isolating, the WIP Crit Sessions offer a space to share works-in-progress, exchange ideas, and engage in peer dialogue with facilitation tailored to participants’ needs. The programme recognises that access to critique, visibility, and cultural networks is uneven and seeks to address this through a supportive, non-commercial, peer-led format.

Programme Details
- 7 sessions, each 3 hours
Tuesdays, 31/3/2026-2/6/2026, 17:00-20:00
- Programme costs covered by Visual Voices
- This open call is addressed to emerging artists
- We aim to form a diverse group of 12 practitioners with varied backgrounds and experiences

Taking place at: Kartzin, 83 Aischylou Street, 1011 Nicosia, Cyprus
